Hi,
I looked in the owners manual and it looks like what happened to me tonight is normal behavior but I'd like some experts to assure me. Besides the orange low fuel warning light, should the LCD flash spastically (including the needle) and show 0 (zero) mph for a short while if the senor senses low fuel? It freaked me out when it happened this evening. I noticed it when I came out of a sweeper in which I was way leaned over but the orange light was not on at the same time. I fueled up anyway and was only able to get ~4 gallons in her. Is everything OK with the flashing LCD?

BTW, 27 mpg. Is anyone doing any better. I can't see turning this bike into my commuter bike. My Jetta gets better mileage.

Thanks in advance,
Phil

Didn't think the flash had anything to do with the lcd just the ecu. 40mpg average is what i am getting out of mine. just tell your steeler what is happening and they should ( if there customer service is any good) replace it under warrenty.
Mine had a water stain in the lcd and the good fellows at mancherster HD sorted it all out for me. mine is a 08 so there wasn't the gear indicator. now there is

Thanks for the replies. Just to be clear, the ecu is affecting the lcd and this is not because of low fuel sending unit?

What are you guys doing to get such good mileage? My bike is only on its first 250 mi. I accelerate hard but have not been pushing the tach beyond 5-6k until I break it in all the way.

Thanks again.

I don't know HOW Froggy gets 54 AVERAGE.

I Tried this on Monday on my way home from work. I couldn't get any better than 55MPG instant MPG in 6th gear, 52 MPH downhill.

Now 27MPG does seem low. I've been getting anywhere from 28 to 31 average. But that's due to the cold weather morning warm up, and only 11 mile commute.

It will get better after a 1000 or so miles on it but its all in how you ride you know I stay on it hard most of the time. So I could get better if I try to.

Steve, hyper milers use neutral for downhill.

My fun on the bike seems to inversely correlate with mpg. I've gotten anywhere from 25-45mpg out of a tank. Typically around 30mpg.

Neutral, engine off, but you didn't hear that from me : )

Hard to say for sure just going on your description. My first guess was a power related issue, which is why I asked if its been in for the service to get the new stator relay harness.

Froggy,

I haven't had it in for service. I'll call the dealer now and ask about the stator relay harness.

As an update, I had the bike out again today on a full tank and the bike did this several times, showing 0 mph and not registering the current gear. Each of the three times I noticed it, it was under hard but not "sick" acceleration. One of the times it seemed the squeezing the clutch cleared the problem - but that might have been a coincidence. BTW, not every hard acceleration caused the 0 mph.

I'll keep you updated.

Totally worth it.

Daily trips back and forth to work...33 to 35, depending on traffic.
This is an 88.5 mile trek.

This is also using real math, not the dash board info.
