They ARE sending to owners. They also include the card from your handbook about if you bought bike from original owner so they can forward recalls(which this is not), and updates/improvements/suggestions(which this is)To the NEW owner address.

Got mine Today. March 14th. Post dated March 9th.

It isn't a rumor. If You don't have a letter. Your bike is....

A. Bike was made with the updated engine after above stated date.
B. You are not the original owner in Buells files.
C. You are in the chute to get a letter.

or my favorite...

D. You are an argumentative, and mean BadWebber, and Karma is calling.

I got my letter yesterday (3/13). My build date is 12/08 (2009 CR).

I rode up to the dealer, he looked up my VIN and ordered the parts per the bulletin. I will take it back in when the parts arrive.

Got my letter March 12th. The funny thing is my bike was already at the dealer and I told them to look up my vin# and the service bulletin on March 10th they did so and ordered the parts. So I am in their for the clutch weep issue and the new harness for the stator. The end of this week will be two weeks and I have a feeling I wont get my bike back until the third week since the service dept. is closed on Monday's which delays shipping times.

09 Cr build date Nov. 2008

I stand corrected.

I got my own letter in the mail on Saturday.

Depressing as hell that the sender address is "Buell Motorcycle Company / 3700 West Juneau Ave. Milwaukee WI".

Letter was dated 3/9/10, got it in the mail on 3/13/10, called dealer to order parts (need VIN), they will call me when parts are in to schedule service and flash version check.

HD is allowing 1 hour for install of harness, but dealer said they may need 1.5 hours depending on how many they have done to that point.

I just did the same Kirb. Parts are in stock and said they would need 2 to 2 1/2 hrs for the install. I am guessing that they haven't done any yet. "Learning Curve"

Got the letter over the weekend and alerted my dealer. He's ordering the parts. My bike is still there from my little accident back in December. As far as I know, it's STILL waiting for a right side red pod cover.

Has anyone gotten their dealer to just give them the harness? I dont feel like putting my stock ecm and pipe back on for a warranty claim. I get a little vibe like "hey this pipe voids future warranty claims" or something.

maybe i am paranoid!

Tbow - if you're worried about that, just order the harness. It's about 38 bucks and then you don't have to let them touch your bike at all (except to get the current flash).

Apparantly this harness prevents the battery from charging if engine is below 4000 RPM ... anyone confirm this?

That's what mine is doing now but that's not good enough for me cuz it should still charge just not a lot.

It does not completely stop the battery from charging. It will cycle one leg of the stator on and off to reduce the stator output. So, there is still always power coming from the stator, it just depends on whether it is enough to overcome the deficit.

Also, the ECM monitors battery voltage and if it gets too low it will turn off the stator harness cycling so that it runs at full output. I can't remember specifically what the cycle time is but it's somewhere around 2min off and 1 min on regarding the switched stator leg.

Right I understand what its supposed to do but for me its as if the first stage isn't working at all. At an idle I watched the volt gauge go from like 13.5 to 12.2 in under two minutes and than the dealer had a had it pegged and it maxed at 13.7 and that's to low.

Did you have your stator replaced? It could be that your stator is already at a point that it has been overheating enough that it is now failing. If that is the case then you need it replaced which should still be covered under warranty.

So, is the stator currently in your bike new or is it the burnt out one?

Tibman260, stupid question, would running high load accessories prevent the stator from heating up, or would it increase the heat?

Neither, the stator is going to output its load no matter what. Either into the system or back through the voltage regulator because of the way the voltage regulator is set up. The additional accessories will only put additional load on the system making your margin for when your charging system is running at a positive smaller.

Ok, the stator isn't actually updated. It is still the same "component" that was in your bike before but a brand new one if it was replaced. The harness is there to prevent the same new component from failing in the manner that the old component did.

I would double check with the dealer to make sure they replaced it.

Vinb, I was thinking about it some more. The harness and relay are set up such that if there is some sort of failure in the harness the relay will fail open, ie the stator leg will be left off. I am wondering if in your case there is an issue with the control of the relay and it is not working at all. That would cause you to have the third stator leg off all the time which would be inline with the conditions you are seeing.

You might want to take the bike back in and have the dealer run an electrical check on the harness setup to make sure it is functioning properly.

Its still there I never brought it home I was expecting something to go wrong. So I rode around and saw what it was doing well not doing. I'm 45 miles from the shop so hell they were baffled when I was back in ten minutes with the same problem sort to speak.
