Getting my act together to attend the Indy GP in August. Has anyone here attended? What's the best spot to sit as there are a bunch of choices? We're planning on camping at the track...It would be great to gather with other Buellers...

I attended the inaugural GP race in Indy and spent almost the entire time wandering around the track trying to find the perfect spot. I finally figured out there wasn't one, at least for me. I like watching guys slam through the curves and I like watching guys scream down the straight away. The "best" places to watch are also the most crowded so its hard to see anyway. Just go and have fun...and set your DVR.

The campground SUCKS. We did that the first year and won't do it again. The $10.00 for an eight minute shower were enough for me. That, and the guy dying at the next spot over didn't add to the pleasantness either (might've choked on his own vomit, based on the number of empty beer cans around his tent).

The Red Roof in Speedway (about a mile and a half from the track) is already booked solid. I just reserved three rooms at the Motel 6 across the street.

For the past two years we had covered box seats in the Paddock Penthouse, but you can't see any of the turns (other than Turn 1) clearly from there so this year we moved farther down the track (still covered seats... we remember Hurricane Ivan that first year too well).

It's an AWESOME spectacle! Definitely worth seeing.

i'm up to attending the Indy GP. with my 2009 white 1125R. actually looking for a passenger to fill my pillion. i'd be coming in from Fort Wayne, IN (NE part).

i'm a mature woman with 30 years of bikes; dirt bikes, drag racing, road racing, and over 100K street mileage. my choice would be a woman passenger but whom ever. i would be willing to go up as far as Chicago.

Hi,
I've attended all of the Laguna Seca and Indy MotoGPs. I prefer the culture (Cannery Row, Monterey) and the track at Laguna but attending Indy is so much cheaper and hassle-free.

If you own a Ducati ; ), the Project Mugello reserved grandstand package is great, right at the pit out section; they really treat their owners well at all the races. But even if you don't own one, that area by the fence (next to Ducati Island) is still good. I found decent areas next to some infield turns too.

so when is the race? have a few friends that want to attend with me? We have never been to a race of this style so this is new to us. Don't need a place to stay because only about a few hours away.

the race is around labor day weekend. i liked the camping as the track is right there. a 10 dollar shower after a couple of days without didn't bother me at all and was way better than a hotel price. to each their own. make sure you buy a ticket for the Indy mile also. a lot of the MotoGp riders attend and it is a good time! oh yeah, my tickets are already ordered.

Sorry Redbuell, that pic was the shop of McHenry HD/Buell in McHenry, Il. Nice shop and the have a TON of 1125's. They were stocking up on anyone they could find. I think they have a connection with Buell.

By the way, i will be picking up my White 1125R next week. Assuming the weather forecast holds for temps in the 50's and DRY. I have to ride it back to Fort Wayne, IN. Would LOVE to have anyone ride even part way with me. I plan to go back roads to avoid Chicago and maybe find some curves (in the road stupid, lol).

went last year on the three day general admission ticket and found a few spots to see the track really well including a few corners. the first few days you could go pretty much to any seats without ? and i am going to buy general admission again this year i dont think there where any seats i had to pay for that looked much better than a few of the general admission areas. but you did have to get there early and mark a good spot race day and have someone hold it most the day to have good race seats. that being said for higher priced seats that are for sure yours i think j and s.w. vista maybe had a good view of some corners but still not covered those are mainly front strait seats.

Thanks for the tip on the Motel 6! I'm using it as a hedge against the weather. I don't mind watching the races in the wet but would rather not deal with sleeping in it. If it turns out that the weather will be nice and my girlfriend can come to terms with the "pay showers", I'll cancel (with no penalty up to 24 hours before arrival!)and camp. I'm definitely going to the Mile race as well.

any military members going to take advantage of the sweet package? Looks like we can get:
Three day ticket to the southwest vista
1 redbull program
1 indy motor speedway cinch bag
10% off coupon for IMS merchandise
FREE MOTORCYCLE PARADE LAP ON THE MOTO GP COURSE
free three day backstretch motorcycle parking

Does anyone know if the southwest vista is covered?

I've been two years in a row, and plan to attend this year as well. The first year I bought an expensive ticket and sat in the J-stand. The second year I got the cheap tickets and sat in the N.W Vista. I actually preferred sitting WAY up high on the NW Vista over sitting closer in the J stand. In my opinion, that is the best area to sit, but I haven't watched anything from the other half of the track. There isn't much cheap seating on that half of the track.

I know the inaugural race was a big deal and things have simmered down a bit, but I waited too long to reserve a room and stayed 70 miles outside the track. Make your plans sooner rather than later.

Tbones1125r: Tell ya what... since you're a fellow Bueller you can use the shower in my room for only $5.00. Hell, I'll even let you use it for more than 8 minutes, too.

I've been happy with the seats at sections J & H. You can see about half a dozen turns, though there's not as much passing as I thought there'd be. Quite a bit of action while they enter the straight away, though. I've walked around at practice and just about every part of the track has something to offer. Don't know that anywhere has it "all".
Starting this year, a general admission ticket will let you sit anywhere during the first couple of days, though not on race day.

Not for free, no...

Not unless you're connected, anyway.
