I had to break mine in too. All I had to do was throw it in the dumpster and install the GSD cap.

Have had no problem with my gas cap. But I am not sure, cause one of the guys I ride with has an 1125R, he nor his GF could get the cap off his bike, they were even putting a twist in the key when trying. They turn and ask me, I reach over and the thing instantly came right off for me. I really think you just need that magic touch. Or patience. (just push down on the cap a little)

I had this problem once with the 1125R, solved it by spraying WD40 down the key hole and then gently working the key

Funny, I had the same thing happen just a few days ago at a gas station. The cap just wouldn't open at all. I tried turning the key right and left(left is correct)but nothing happened. I was close to home, so I rode back, parked it and got the owners manual out to verify which way to turn the key. Next day, I inserted the key, turned it left, with a little more effort than I liked but it came off.

Looking at the way the cap locks to the filler neck, it will be an easy task to very lightly file the plastic rails that slide on the metal neck when the key is turned. A good finger nail file, used in moderation will easily do it.

I put a few drops of oil on the cap at it's sliding points and it worked like new!

Hildreth: Yes, it opens by turning the key CCW.

I had trouble getting it open the first time I tanked up, and I felt like a real imbecile.

Once I calmed down and jiggled the key a little, it opened just fine. No worries now.

Wait a minute. This guy squeezed the right lever (brake lever) and it opened? Did I read that correctly?

They have literally nothing to do with each other, LOL.

Ever ride for hours and finally stop, anticipating longggggg overdue bladder relief only to find that your riding gear is uncharacteristically determined to prevent deployment?

The ensuing dance routine is quite entertaining for any spectators.
