I did several with my 04 XB12R and loved it. 1125 I loved even more.....So much more that i couldnt wait to get on it and push both our limits. Well we all know what cold track and cold tires equal? Yep low side. First time ive been down on a street bike ever in 20 years of riding. All the damage is cosmetic thanks to the fine folks at Dark Horse moto. I do wish i had not passed on the case savers the left side (crash side) got ground down a bit. plastics are rashed and a couple scratches here and there but it passed tech after so its good. i will post some pics as soon as i can make myself take them. I hate learning lessons i should not have to learn....let your tires warm up for a lap or two before you push your limits. I Love this bike!!! Tim Tim | ||

Glad you and the bike are ok. Yeah, I learned the other day what cold road plus cold tires equals. Fortunately it was just a little swing around and got it back on track. | ||

What pressures were you running in the tires? It's good to record that type of stuff for safe keeping. I usually ride with 35/36 front/rear when not on the track. I adjust them both to about 30 when I get to the track though. | ||

29.5 front 30 or 31 rear Like i said i was first lap and like 3rd turn (# 2 ) i think it was. just to fast and pushing to hard for really cold tires. | ||

Steve if im not mistaken....and i could very well be, its to allow for heat expansion of the air that is in the tire. a tire set at 30psi cold will be higher when hot. | ||

I've been told just keep the tire pressures at factory spec, unless you're running warmers. This is by a guy who did tire testing, and development riding for Buell. So I tend to listen to him  | ||

It's to allow for expansion due to heat build up. I ran 30psi before I went out on the track. After my second session they were up to 35psi. That's reason enough to drop them to 30psi for me. | ||

OUCH. Next time you're at a track day (if tire vendors are there) - ask for recommended pressures HOT (coming right off the track) Pressures are going to vary wildly depending on WHAT tire you're running. Actually, we're probably over-analyzing this. Cold tires suck. Crashing sucks. Takes about 5 laps on any track for tires to come up to temperature without warmers. | ||

Yeah fairly minor scratches on the swingarm. Hogz is right it slid off the track and into the dirt/gravel. think thats what did the swingarm in. im suprised how little damage is on the fairing. it scooped up lots of dirt though and only a few scratches right on the edge. the bar end and lever helped im sure. | ||

Yeah Xb9er. As the front washed out on me and i was sliding across the turn i was thinking to myself....you just dropped 1 of ? many White 2010 112Rs. "Man this sucks" i picked it up, knocked out some of the dirt and gravel packed in the fairing and started it up and rode it back to the pits. I hate that i crashed it but such is life.. i will fix it up and take it out to the track again. Tim | ||

So any particular pattern for crashing Buells? Generally losing the front, entering turn, mid-turn, on brakes or off, etc? These do handle well but differently. | ||

I knew I was a little fast on a big left hander. I decided just to lean more an hang on for the ride. About half way into it, I started to feel something weird on the front tire like it was slipping or something. I looked over briefly and then said "crap!, I cant believe this is happening." I had previously gone around the track like 30 times with no problems. I looked at the tires later and still had about .20 inch room left. Its possible that maybe I just out-rode the tire. Maybe I just panic and did something to low side it. I am still trying to figure out how the forks got bent. It also must have been some blow to break the fairing bracket in half. I did get my knee down a few times that session before I crashed. The tire was definitely warm as it was next to last lap. However, the bike felt really good before the crash. Hands down favorite bike so far. But the XB might have saved my ass since it can't move as quick. | ||

Any chance you let off the throttle shifting weight to the front of the bike therefore causing it to be unstable and slide out from you, Icontender? That sucks man. How does insurance deal with that? Just tell you tough luck since you were on the track? | ||

if it had been worse i might have lost it off the trailer on the way home and claimed it on ins but such as it is i will just fix it up. Tim | ||

If your insurance doesn't cover a track day, I would drop them like a rock. | ||

EVERY insurance company is different. MOST will cover track days if it is a teaching environment. MOST track day operators are careful to NEVER make statements about "speed" "lap times" "racing" - but will talk about "skill" "experience" - so most insurance can cover (since it's not a "race school") Still - when I started racing, I was still making payments and when I had a get-off, I just never reported it. | ||

I too had a lowside entering a long left hander. Everything was going great but in an instant it felt like someone pulled the front from under me. We slid of the the black stuff and as soon as we hit the dirt, the bike flipped on top of me (sufferded a fractured rib and a few bruised muscles in my left leg). At least i broke her fall (LOL) | ||

You need to be real careful with trackdays. They're just bait for racing! I low-sided my then new 1125 in Sept '08 at my first track day. Instant race bike. There's few things better than racing and trackdays. |
