When I say the Execs at H-D, it's comments like these that make me angry:

An executive comment was, "Geez, we're losing money, what are we doing funding Erik's racing hobby?"

Such professionalism from those guys...not so much.

imho very odd (naive) from erik to say something like that about a company, his name stood for 26 years:

"CW: What's your take on the Harley-Davidson statement about not selling Buell because it was too deeply integrated into the company and H-D dealerships?

EB: Yeah, well, I'm just an engineer. I don't know the complexities of what they were talking about, I didn't really understand it myself. They were pretty adamant, that was the way it was going to be. I think they wanted to be sure their dealers still kept the service business and parts business and all that. I wish it hadn't happened but it was their decision to make."

EB: "No, I'll be back in the motorcycle industry. I still believe we can build an American sportbike that's a valid product, and I think we were there."

Rob(Carbonbigfoot), I agree as Erik said in the statement above. I'm probably on my last Buell with my 1125R but I'll be looking forward to seeing Buell's again and quite possibly in World SB.

Carry on Erik in the usual outstanding way you have always been doing. Stay tough and persevere. Bob

Show me a new street-going product offered by Erik Buell, and I'll sign financing paperwork. I have little doubt that I would be thrilled with my purchase.

Erik can't even tell you why he can't say anything more controversial than that. Just take it for granted that his escape from Harley came at some non-obvious costs.

Sounds like I have a few years to save up for my next bike.

I can't wait!

As for the "I'm just an engineer" comment, I completely understand why he would state it that way. I have used those exact words before, it is not a naive comment.

I don't agree with them, but I won't vilify them.

We were struggling with the fact that being in Harley dealers, to a lot of our customers, was a little bit of a negative.

Polite and understated, even now : )

I'm just upset. I got back to St Augustine and the local paper had a blurb about "Harley Davidson CEO Wandell visited HD of St Augustine on the way to Bike Week".

Wish I'd known.

I'd have made a POINT to meet the man.

Riding my '95 S2 : )
