You need to have ridden the track to get your head around just how fast a 1:56 is at Daytona. Sure, pole position for the Daytona Sportbike class went to Eslick who killed it about 6 seconds quicker, but Paul James is not a fulltime pro racer. He's a Dad, he's got a real job, and while certainly not old, he's not a kid anymore either.

I'm writing this solely to point out how truly excellent this is. For a guy like him to make it into the show at ALL, let alone do it when such a hot pace was set, is pretty damned impressive. Good for you Paul. Good for you James Gang. Sleep well tonite -- it's a quick 200 miles to glory tomorrow.

:-)

Yep. He and I are the same age and I've had the pleasure of getting my doors blown off by him many times at the races.
I've helped out JGR in Moto-ST.
Great group of guys that, although some work in the motorcycle industry, ALL are just normal guys chasing a life long dream. Wish I could be there. Best of luck to all the Buell Racers. You make us proud.

If only the track were covered in ice, there'd be no contest...

Maybe he can manage some strategic full body checks before the race start.

Oh, and here's a link to a clip on VIMEO. It's 9 seconds from a video we did at the end of the '08 season. The action footage is of Paul on his XB. And I think someone in here recently bought the leathers he's wearing.

He's fast, nice and smarter than the average bear.

I'm wishing him all the best in the Daytona 200.

I think he was just kidding about the "eh". But I guess in the politically correct world today there is no joking as it is offensive to someone.

I find the idea of any repression of joking to be deeply offensive and frankly I'm disgusted that you suggested we could ever survive in a world without joking. I'm not joking about this.

Hmm, equal stereotypes: Canadians say "eh" and Americans are a$sholes. Oh well, now that you've given us that fair and unbiased opinion, we'll consider ourselves set straight.

Funny, most Canadians don't seem like overly sensitive types.

The other kids probably teased Lastonethere in elementary school because he couldn't draw a maple leaf. ; )

Oh, the emotional scars it must have left!

I was a little annoyed that the commentators yapped non stop about Yamaha Yamaha Yamaha. Am I the only racing fan that is bored shitless watching IL4 Factory prepped bikes go round the track? They had a few words to say about the Ducati, but not a peep about Higbee.

but i am an ass hole so that shoots your theory all to hell! and im damn good at it too... so now what eh?

oh here, i found this too:
"62 definitions - An interjection or prompt spoken by Canadians. Equivalent to the American "huh?" or "right?"

(im sooo glad i have never once in my life caught myself giving political correctness a passing thought.)

Lastone,

We in the states have been exposed to the 'eh' thing so much (like several seasons of Saturday Night Live) that I didn't realize that this was a sensitive point. As No_Rice points out, I thought this was just an interjection. The last thing on my mind was to make anyone uncomfortable or angry.

Natty, one person's gentle silliness is another persons fighting words. Face to face we can tell the difference. On a message board, maybe not so much.

No harm meant. And thanks for letting me know.

Well I just hope this doesn't degenerate into war... because we already have our hands full with Iraq and Afghanistan and it's damn big border and even though they speak Canadian, they do kinda look like us so the whole spying/double agent thing will be tough to control.

(FYI: that, like the previous thing I posted on this subject, was SARDONIC -- apparently difficult for some to differentiate from serious).

And one last thought? Reading the jingoistic pissing match was quite entertaining, but it might have been better to NOT have it in a thread about a great guy/Buell racer who did something quite amazing (finishing 16th).

Know what I mean?
Eh?!

I just think it's great to see Steve on the board again! : ) How ya been, man? Miss chasing you around all those product knowledge track-days!! You, and crazy-man Tripp. Although, I still need to find a way to "thank" you for sticking my ugly mug on the 25th video...lol

The 200 was an incredible showcase. 3 "unsupported" Buells in the top 20, one of those in the top 10. Awesome. All the guys did an amazing job - the bikes looked good, they stayed solid throughout the race, and all three were *picking up* positions as the race went on - running stronger and stronger. Maybe it was the cold - they all just wanted to finish up so they could crawl into the trailer and turn the heat on "cook" for a while ; ) All in all, it was a great night. Colder than hell...but a great night.
