I just ordered the accessory cigarette lighter plug. Kinda curious how others mounted them. I was just planning to bring it up near the bars and zip tie it. | ||

I kept a cig plug behind the flyscreen on my '99M2, but these days I find places to mount powerlets: http://www.powerletproducts.com/ The are FAR better than cig outlets (snap fit) and are great if you don't have a converter built into the plug. Even then, I wire a powerlet to cig recept and put that in the tank bag. No more vibration killing power flow. | ||

I am familiar with Powerlet products. The problem is I do not want to convert everything to those plugs as they would not work in my truck then. I don't use a tank bag so the converter would just bounce around in space. ac | ||

I never liked the cig lighter 'look' or the fixtures they have as they all look cheap (at least the ones I've seen). You could use a cig to powerlet in the truck or trick out your truck with a slew of powerlet outlets...cool. Anyway, good luck with your search. You have many more options on an R than CR for mouting. | ||

Actually CR is way easier. I will just drill a hole in the headlight housing trim. That option doesn't exist on the R. | ||

I ended running an 8 pair terminal strip up front for some of my accys. Mine happened to e powered from the tail section since at the time we didn't know there was an accy plug up front. You can get those Euro type from Radio Shack. That's my preferred method instead of splicing too many wires. In over 150,000 miles they have never given me any issues. later Neil S. | ||

I've got a BMW socket (also known as a John Deere socket) mounted on the left side of the bike below the scoop. I'd take a photo, but the bike is currently in the shop awaiting parts. That socket is far better than a cigarette lighter. It's also a defacto "standard" (BMW has been using them for DECADES) and most electrical clothing suppliers will sell you the wires with the necessary plug preinstalled. Deltran even sells the Battery Tender with that plug available. You can also get an adapter for those devices that absolutely, positively require a cigarette lighter outlet (most cell phone chargers, for example). | ||

I have seen that idea and the equipment to do it on Eastern Beaver. I was thinking about doing that with my left saddle bag since that is near where my battery tender wire comes out (under seat, left side). That would work great for non-interactive items such as a charging cell phone. It wouldn't work to power the GPS or radar detector as well. ac |
