Any seasoned vets of this site know where I can find aftermarket parts of for the 25R model? I'm looking for pretty much anything that will make my bike "custom." I also want to avoid, over time, paying a ton for shipping. I live in Seguin, Tx. I-10 and I-35 are close by and give access to major cities. It seems all the machinists or fabricators live in midwest to east/upper east coast. I'd like to meet people closer to home.

I'm not going to say that it's impossible, but it's pretty darn unlikely that you'll magically find someone making stuff that fits your personal preference and that is located near your area. Given the very limited production of the 1125R, it's amazing how many people are actually producing parts for it.

Besides, shipping accounts for a VERY small part of the cost of purchasing parts. A $600 exhaust might cost $25 to have it shipped to you. If the vendor was closer, you might save $5-$10 off of that. I think most 1125R owners would agree that such a small amount of money is pretty much irrelevant if you are lucky enough to find someone selling the actual part you want at a reasonable price in the first place.

The word "custom" denotes, nonstock, something that no one else has, done in a way no one else does.

It seems you are't asking custom, just off the shelf, nonOEM parts.

The internet is full of stuff for the Buell. Just not as much as the offshore brands.

Kickstand76, tell us what you're trying to do and we can probably direct you a little better. Custom paint, plating, powder coating, parts, exhaust? You're not too far from Central Texas HD in Austin (sponsor) they could probably direct you.

Mine is custom, I put on HIDs and grips. ; )

take a look at whats being done in your area with custom hot rod and motorcycle shows. You will see a lot of the creative talent in your area in one place at one time. follow your imagination with the talent that strikes you best.

I agree with you, spending in your home state is admirable. The next step is home country.

I'm in Dallas.

But I highly doubt I'll ever head your way besides taking the little lady to San Antonio.

I think you are going to play hell trying to find local parts.

I'm really not to internet friendly when it comes to money transfers. While living in Washington State I was one of many victims of Identity Theft. Some crooked SOB racked up $90,000 of debt under my name. Thats the reason I was asking for local machinists/fabricator. If I can't see it, touch it with my own eyes or hands I pass. I'm very skeptical when it comes to purchasing things over internet.

You might shoot Skully a note at Dark Horse Moto - though just because he's in Texas, doesn't mean he's within a day's drive of where you are!

I wouldn't be as fearful using internet as I am handing my VISA to a complete stranger at a restaurant or JC Penny's when I get a pair of Levis.

I still try to pay cash wherever possible or deal with people that I know or know about... so I kinda understand your concern.

Kickstand,

We are near Longview, Texas, about two hours east of Dallas. Give us a holler if we can help with anything.

You are safer using your credit card online than in a store. When you use a credit card online, the only person that sees the info is you. The data is encrypted and sent over secure channels and after its processed, depending on the site it probably gets deleted.

Many credit cards have an option to generate 1 time use numbers, so you can do that for a site you don't trust.

When you pay for something at a restaurant, the waiter disappears with your card for several minutes, they can charge whatever they want to it then, or jot down your info for later. I don't see it much anymore, but with the older manual credit card processing papers that do the carbon copy thing, the old papers get tossed in the garbage where they can be easily stolen.

Lifelock is a waste of money, you can do all that monitoring and protection for free

Use a pre-pay card.. I use that for online stuff and that way if the worst ever happened you'd only lose the balance on the card at the time..

A prepaid card is the absolute WORST thing to do. If someone steals your CREDIT card, it is the BANK'S money that they are stealing. You are not liable for it, aside from maybe a basic fee and even that's not a sure thing. It is in the bank's interest to not hold the charges against you (because if they tried to, you could just tell them to take a walk, and then they'd have to sue you to get the money and no court would force someone to pay up if their credit card was stolen) and to pursue legal action against whoever stole the credit card information.

But if someone steals your PREPAID card, YOUR money is what is being stolen. Who is going to help you out then? No bank has an incentive to help you when their money isn't at risk.

I use my credit card for EVERYTHING, short of small purchases like fast food. I monitor my monthly statements and if I see anything amiss, I let the credit card company know immediately and they take care of it.

I feel the same way about debit cards as I do about prepaid cards, which is why my ATM card is just an ATM card--it does not double as a debit card like many people have.

+1 on not using the visa/MC linked to your checking account. The money is still protected by Visa's liability guarantees, but the money that gets spent fraudulently comes directly out of your checking account. You have to work to get it back. Not so with a real credit card.

I always use the credit card online, never use the debit. Ever. And try to run your debit as credit when you can. Especially at gas stations where they put a minimum "hold" on the card.

A prepaid card is the absolute WORST thing to do.

That's not the case with mine - it's still covered by the Mastercard guarantee.. i know that 'cause I lost mine today (lost my wallet on the ride in to work) and they're sending a new one with the balance from the old one and told me that if anyone used the other card they'd still refund it to me...

Chris, Robert at XB lights has some kickass bright taillights that could make a custom set up for you. Keith at Darkhorse makes some cool stuff and sometimes you can catch him at some track days. If you want some custom sliders similar to mine that you saw yesterday or of your own design I know who to talk to.

In fact we've got some talented guys in our group you just need to get up to Austin and meet the rest of them some Thur.
