Anybody done it ? I'm thinking of trimming down the tail plastics and welding on the buddy seat cover to make the bike a solo seater. I also want to "roll over" the cut edges if possible so that they're not just a sharp edge. Has it been done ? Can it be done ? Any hints and tips would be greatly appreciated ! | ||

i have heard of a 'plastic welder' and looks to me like a super-soldering iron. based off my metal welding skillz or lack there of, i'll deal with the hassle of a removable seat and having some small storage space | ||

Sportster_mann - I am assuming you know there are single seat "plastics" (in carbon or fibreglass) available already? So I guess you're either looking to save some money or just have something "unique" (?) It'd be relatively easy to permanently attach the pillion seat cover, you could just take the rear plastic off, turn it upside down and use some fibreglass weave to bond the seat cover on.. Turn it the right way up again and use plastic filler to fill the gaps, sand it and paint it... It's make access to the battery a PITA though.. Which bit did you fancy trimming and rolling? The plastic feels pretty flimsy when off the bike so I'd guess that application of indirect heat (hot air gun) and some force would probably enable some degree of moulding... Actually I'm incredibly impressed with the plastics, they're so flimsy when off and yet so "rigid" when mounted and use only the absolut minimum of fastners too - really quite cleverly done. i did exactly that on my bolt...as well as filling in one of the head lights  as said using plastic welding and flexi rod same as use for bumper repairs.. then all painted as has been noted by others.  its not an easy job and the single seat set ups are cheap now, but its fun to say..' i did that' Wkd1 | ||

Wkd14u2, nice job. Your bike looks good. Sportster_mann, is there a reason you wouldn't want to use the tail from Grandstand Designs? It's already one piece and lighter. | ||

Duggram, it's because I quite like the look of the tail end on the MagPul -  And was wondering how it would look if I cut down the bodywork to expose some of the subframe underneath. | ||

You can sand down the sharp edges. I plan to do it, just haven't started yet. I'll probably start with 320 and work my way up to 2000 grit. |
