Well for a few months of staring at that glaring blue frame and swingarm after changing body colors I couldn't take it anymore.

It's finally black!!!! I went about it a different way too. I decided to use bedliner coating.

Several reasons : 1 Something more bulletproof than paint, chip it 60 sec quick fix (I remember Zac mentioning his clear coat kept cracking)
2 I can't afford powder coating
3 I didn't want to tear the the whole bike down
4 Hopefully should help a little with heat from the frame in the Summer
5 Help with gripping the bike in corners

I still had to strip it down a bit. Those pods are a PIA to undo and get them away from the frame without draining everything.

It was a pretty big difference looking at the two colors side by side.

The sheen was a lot more glossy than I was expecting. I was hoping for a more flat color like most spray on bedliners , to resemble the textured look of the newer black frames . In direct light from 20 ft it looks like black metal flake paint.

I'm pretty happy with it overall and it gave me a chance to do some other chores on it that I kept pushing back.

EBR race rotor , recolored stripes(that's gotta add 3 hp right?

EBR block off plate ,it doesn't have the holes in it like my butchered stock one did.

Here's some other angles.

pretty sweet man. Cant afford powder coating? I got a guy that quoted me 150 for frame and sub frame(flat black). But I think i might just have to go with what you did and be a copy cat. : ). how much did you spend on the bed liner?

Looks great Shane!

The rotor is way trick. Add a set of EBCs and the brake actually works well.

They also make a smooth surface bed liner FYI.

Should deff hold up to chips and scratches.

Thanks guys, I bought the Duplicolor kit at O'reilly's Automotive, $60. I realized after getting home and looking at the contents I could've just got the can of goo by itself and saved $30. All the kit had extra was a Scotchbrite pad, roller brush and pan which I've already got those in the shop. The Herculiner kit was $89 but from the pics you couldn't tell the difference in the gloss.

I couldn't believe the price on that rotor, when I saw it I had to order right then in case it was a mistake. Yea my pads have only got a couple mm left on them. Another thing to replace, but i want to get the rear rotor first. I just realized the tags while taking the pics DOH!

I'll bet that glossy look fades over time. I rarely see a glossy bedliner. Once it gets some road dust on it, it'll look real good!!

The Duplicolor stuff in the spray can I hear is crap. That's maybe what your thinking of you could have used? There is another product that goes over the bed liner to keep it from fading from the sun. I wouldn't worry about that unless you leave your bike outside 24/7.

I couldn't believe the price on that rotor

I have a race rotor waiting in the box...and it's gonna stay there until I warp the stocker or experience fade. Unless you experience warping or fading, you are just adding unsprung, rotating weight--real bad for the add'l gyro force.

Cool project. Kinda hard to visualize that but it looks surprisingly good.

- but I hate to tell you, those stripes are good for 3HP AT THE CRANK. Rear Wheel HP gains with the stripes are gonna get you about 2.2 HP.

Really Fresno, it doesn't feel any heavier and since it's thinner at 5mm and with the cutouts and the groove that's cut out of the inner diameter I figure it'd be a less heavy.

The spray duplicolor cans is for blending in the corners and crevices that you can't reach with roller or brush. I watched the install on their website.

If I had it all to do over and it would have been alot easier was just add a blue windscreen CityX blue airbox cover and been done with it over a year ago instead of all the hassle and changes that you see now. I digress, a compulsive tinkerer's life is never done.

I asked Buell Racing to weight all 3 of the rotor options and from lightest to heaviest--stocker, finned, 6mm. I do believe the stocker and finned are the same 5mm thickness.

The aftermarket Wave rotor claims to be lighter than the stock one, but I got it just for the look.

My concern with that wave rotor is it will build and not be able to dissipate heat well enough put under track-duty loads.

The new brake mounting hardware EBR sells was going to be the 2011 OEM mounting. It uses a diaphragm spring for the float and a copper washer to help the rotor have better contact with the wheel and sink some of the heat to the wheel.

i like what you've done there. i painted my 9 with truck bed paint and really like the way it looks/feels.

mayhaps you could get the seat re-covered in yellow vinyl?
not to criticize. as you said a compulsive tinkerer's life is never done

This I did not know. Interesting. I have this hardware sitting on the work bench awaiting my ZTL2 conversion for the XB. Can't wait to compare stock versus EBR...

Yes, except its not paint : )

After taking that photo I did the tail section center piece. But in that photo I have the fork guard, chin spoiler, seat rails, and insert on the rear bag done.

Braking, got it from American Sport Bike.

I can't vouch for track duty, but I have never had an issue on the street. Also, I am not Rossi.

Ok, done threadjacking. : )

Froggy I love that techno camo wrap! That totally jacks up the coolness factor a couple of notches.

In the first pic of the front end you posted I had to blink a couple times before realizing my screen and eyes were working correctly. It does mess with optical senses.
