Here is the beam pattern when i had the stock high and a 35watt 6000k low installed

Doesn't show much. Guess I'll have to get a legit whiz bang camera to capture a good beam pattern at night on the road

I too just installed my HIDs: DDM Tuning 55W 6000K (H7) for both high and low beams.

Everything fits under the fly screen with no modifications. Just route all the wiring under there neatly and it'll fit just fine, even with the 55W slim ballasts which are just a tad longer than the regular 35W units.

When modifying the high beam bulb holder: be very careful with the Dremel (or whatever tool you're using) as you have to retain the three tabs in the base where the circular metal bulb retainer spring holds ground. I got carried away and eliminated one (oops, lol). I really wish I could find a spare high beam bulb holder to modify ... looks like you have to buy the whole headlight sub-harness to get it. You'll also have to cut the ring to get it onto the backside of the new H7 HID bulb.

The headlight assembly is a BITCH to get back on. Getting the two pegs on the bottom lined up and pivoting the upper headlight assembly back in is a real pain, especially with all the new components you just added in there. Just be mindful of the brake and clutch switch wires, the brake and clutch lines, and the fly screen support tabs on either side of the cluster ... you have to bend them almost to the point of breaking, but they don't (very flexible even in cold temperatures).

Results are really great: the low beam pattern is much better than I thought it would be being a reflective housing made for standard incandescent bulbs. Distinct cutoff with just a hint of glare ... the fly screen really blocks a lot of the glare going into oncoming traffic's eyes so I don't think this will be a problem at all.

Overall very pleased. The 55W 6000K is th perfect mix of visibility with a hint of blue, and light output which is like a controlled supernova focusing ahead of you.

Thanks to all for the beam pictures, especially the one with the stock comparison. By the looks of these shots, glare doesn't look to be too much of an issue. The stock beam pattern does look to be more even/widespread, but that might be a result of the camera, wall color, etc.

Very interesting. Captain's 6000k looks far less blue than Streetdemon's 500k.

The stock light also looks "brighter" and more "useful" than Streetdemon's.

What brand do each of you have?

I have DDM's 55 Watt 8000K's in both my High and Low beams. IMO they are slightly whiter in color than 35w 6000's

I'm pretty sure I can high-jack my own thread so here are some more shots of my lighting and LED parking light...

Beam Pattern to come at lunch.

And The Evil Eye!

I'm pretty sure I read in another thread that the 5 LED wedge "bulb" doesn't work well in the CR housing which is soooo untrue!

Do the HID kits you guys are installing include wiring that goes from the battery to a relay that's controlled by the original headlight circuit? Or, are they plugged directly into the existing headlight wiring?

I've heard HIDs draw 9 amps when first powering up. I'm wondering if the stock harness will handle this much current? Any problems reported?

The DDM's Are designed to get their power from the stock headlight harness. This I how mine are wired.

I know from past experience with crappy analog HID ballasts they do draw a hell of a lot of current on start-up. And usually the stock harness cannot provide enough current to the ballast on start-up causing flickering. DDM advertises that they only draw like 6amps on start-up and 3 while they are running, with their digital slim ballast. Being as though the headlight fuse is a 15 amp the start-up current should not be an issue. This doesn't mean that the wiring was meant for this type of abuse but I think it will be fine. I have pulled the headlight assy down several times now after the install and have not seen any wire damage.

Agreed. If installed properly, this shouldn't be an issue. The stock wiring harness was designed to draw up to the fuse rating all day long (and then a bit...). 6A won't affect anything during startup. A standard 55W bulb will draw about 4.5A at start.

i talked to the guy from ddm and i think i solved the high beam start up issue. im going to put a reley on one leg of the bulb wires and hook it to my high beam switch. then power up both balests off the low beam so i have instant high beam.

Xb12s_streetdemon, Question on that:

1. What kind of relay are you going to use? Will it handle that kind of voltage?

2. It doesn't seem to me that 12+ amps of current going through those low OR high beam wires would be good for them... Am i wrong?
