I searched but didn't come up with anything. I needed to move the '09R today - First time in 6-7 weeks since the weather has been junk. I didn't start it, just rolled it forward a bit and put it back on its sidestand. What's this ... A new noise?

As it went back to the sidestand, it made a clunk (knock) sound in the front forks. I stood it back up, and depressed the forks a few times with body weight. On each cycle, it would make that rather loud (easily noticeable) knock sound in the front.

It's been sitting unmoved for a couple of months, on its sidestand under a cover. Each time I set it back down on its sidestand ... Clunk. Has anyone else had this happen? I'd like to think it will go away next I ride it. It's not brake related - It makes that same noise even when applying the brake.

have you adjusted the chain on the blinker fluid pump?

Front fork noise possibilities:

-Oil insufficient or too thin (possibly because it is still cold)
-Spring weak or broken

If you're sure it is the forks making the noise and not the neck bearings where the triple tree connects to the frame,
your noise probably has to do with the bushings in the forks and the oil sitting for long in cold weather.

I saw a suspension specialist about my own fork noise issue. He said if the inner fork tubes aren't exactly aligned with the outer, then they may contact the bushings slightly upon compression. He mentioned cold temps and oil weights being related to this symptom.

In my case, he listened to the noise and told me it was fine, nothing to worry about. I was wondering if i needed a fork rebuild, but as long as it works and hasn't changed the feeling I get when taking corners, he suggested to wait on the fork rebuild till i am good enough to need upgraded internals.

You might try loosening the front pinch bolts and axle, backing the axle out a few turns, standing the bike upright and bouncing the forks up and down 5-10 times, then re-torquing everything to spec. It might help to realign the inner forks.

If it still concerns you, track down a local suspension guy. I know "fork noise" has been discussed on the forum before. try a search if you want more input.

This is normal, mine does the same thing, its coming from inside the forks, there has been a thread or 2 on it, but i cant find them either now, but then the search is a tad hit n miss lol

The noise is from the fork upper bushing, it is a split bushing design and that will cause some play between the bushing and fork tube. It is considered normal, the noise was probably amplified in your case by the oil draining off the bushing from sitting. When oil gets back up there it will probably quiet down some. My bike has had this noise since about 1000 miles on it. I switched to a thicker synthetic oil that also helped quiet it some.

As the steering head bearings set in, this
"klunk" is also pretty common. Generally, just loosening everything and then tightening to spec does the trick.

I had the same question for the tech when I brought it in for the 600 mile service (Nov in WI). we checked 4 other bikes that had been set up for delivery and they all did it. SO, I'm hoping it's 'normal'...

Hey,Lastonebuys,down here in the states all our bikes have blinker pumps that are chaindriven,an EPA thing...I guess way up north you all don't need them huh...

My CR makes funny noises when starting up.

It is either the front end or the belt pulley, then the rear brake pads can be heard down the street, they are so loud...REX

Thanks guys ... It seems to be in the forks, not the triple tree area. It's got 800 miles on it and wasn't making any kind of noise like this when I parked it. Once the snow is gone, I'll take it out and see what it does!

I agree with Chevycummins. I recall having this condition for a long time... Until I switched to a heavier fork oil at the service interval. I bought the stuff Al @ AmericanSportbike.com sells. Works well.

I've rode mine at 16 degrees F two days in a row during a several week long cold front. Most of the time it was a balmy 18-24 F.
And I didn't even have heated gloves, just grips, but they were no help at those temps traveling 75+ mph.

For $13,355.40 ($22,199.04 after interest), this f'ing machine will run whenever and wherever the hell I want.

I've started mine in 24 degree weather, the day last year I was test fitting it in the wheel chock I installed for hauling in my pickup.

I had to ride for a bit afterwards, but it had warmed to almost 30 by then. No real winter gear here, so I didn't go too far away. Call me a wuss.

This clunk/clack in the front forks came from just sitting there. I'll follow the heavier fork oil suggestion if it continues to do it after riding it.

Thanks folks ... I'll have to add the belt-driven blinker fluid pump to my A S B order while I'm tinkering ; )

Took mine to the stealer to fix the clunk noise. They thought it was going to be an easy fix-haha. After they talked with Buell (before they closed) Buell told them that it was a "customer displeaser" but not something that they would pay warranty work to fix.
