Darn! I checked your profile and you aren't from SoCal. I really wish someone would go to Laminar Lip and let them prototype an offering for the CR.

Consider the stock fly screen isn't effective. I'm certain it wasn't a priority being of cafe racer design.

I would consider a wind screen design like the laminar for the Triumph Speed. I wouldn't be surprised if it actually fit. Avc8130, I would be willing to meet with them for fitment.

macchiato: the fly screens ability to deflect air is not a high priority ?? That's what this whole exercise is about dude. Why would you want it higher if not to deflect air ? maybe To give you a place to tuck the picture of your goat. It was as much about function as form for me. I wouldn't say I hit the mark on either one, but I took the shot and can live with the results till something better comes along. At some point I'll get the 1200 Multistrada I'd like to have and take all that stuff off my CR and ride it like it was built. A fun hooligan bike that sparks debate wherever you go, especially here!

Shoot Laminar Lip and email. Their main concern when I emailed them was no donor bike for prototyping.

Got a reply from laminar, I'll see about meeting them but I think they may only be open Mon-Fri. So I may have to take a day off to make this happen.

Hello John,

Ok, you don't get the cookie-cutter reply.

Here's the scoop, we really don't believe anything the aftermarket windshield industry will make anything SPECIFIC for the 1125CR, as anything made for it would only help minimally (perhaps some universal fit shields would be sold to 1125CR owners, but then it would not have an aesthetic fit) so we're pessimistic about function. However, we are willing to give it a try. What we need is someone local (preferably LA/Orange County area, in case we need more than one session, but SD will do in a pinch) Now, there have been a few people who said they'd come by, but still have yet to. Here's what would most likely happen when you stop by -

We'll first try to find something off our shelf that will fit and let you test it, this may be two or three different units that may fit. If nothing fits, we may design something specific for the model (the most likely of scenarios) this may take a few hours. After another round of testing, we'll get your feedback and decide whether or not we're going to scrap a product for the 1125CR altogether or offer it. This is where your critique will be crucial. If you don't feel it helps with wind control at a price point of retail $84, we're probably not going to offer it.

Give us a call Mon-Fri 8:30AM-5:00PM toll free 866.540.5679 to let us know when you can stop by. Mondays are usually pretty bad for us though. Sorry, we're not officially here on weekends.

We think we'll have a bit more luck with the 1125R versus the CR..(iffen you can find someone local for that model as well...)

Safe and pleasant rides,
Leo

Thats a very reasonable response by Laminar. In the latest Motorcyclist mag there was a piece called staffer's rides and one featured the 1125CR. The owner bought the Ilmberger carbon fiber flyscreen, which is slightly taller than stock. Its also $300. He stated the screen is no different than stock as far as wind protection is concerned. He also indicated going to the raise bar option makes wind blast more of an issue. The point is the problem is between function and esthetics and common sense tells me you'll have to install a large windscreen to resolve the wind issue. This is not an option on my bike. I went through this windshield debate when I owned a Multistrada. Even with larger windscreens not one pleased everybody, although I liked what I bought, a MRA screen made in Germany. Buffeting was my main complaint and the screen stopped it for me, but not for everyone else. We discovered each of us has a different sitting style based on body type and size. Therefore the windscreen impacted riders in different ways. The Laminar Lip is an effective product, but it gets hammered for being ugly.

With the above experience in mind, I doubt Laminar can come up with a screen that doesn't look weird and works decently at the same time. Its the law of physics, you can't provide wind protection without some bulk in front of you. Personally, the problem of buffeting isn't annoying until after 70MPH, I think choosing the best helmet instead of messing with the flyscreen is a better remedy. Nowadays, helmet manufacturers are building helmets lighter and more aerodynamically designed. A buddy of mine owns a few helmets, his last purchase was a Vemar and he told me his head doesn't get knocked around like it does when he has his Suomy on. I started looking at helmets because I think that is where your going to gain the best improvement in wind protection. The criteria is light weight and the wind spoiler built into the back of the helmet. The Rocket carbon fiber model seems to fit the bill. There are others of course.

Probably not real effective but I think it looks pretty cool. IMO

I would be interested in a tinted plastic that covered the broad side of the stock flyscreen. It would need to be about 4" higher and have a curvature that increased lift of air flow. I would also be willing to try golf ball style dimples.

I guess I just don't understand. Laminar Lip makes screens for VERY similar bikes. They make a screen for the XB, Monster, Triple, and a few other flyscreen only bikes. They don't look terrible in Smoke. They say they only sell products that work, so I assume they function. I don't see why they feel the CR would be drastically different.

I think it depends on the standards for what is considered an effective screen and what is not. Turns out in many cases to be a personal opinion from each rider and that as I said is heavily influenced by rider size. A particular screen can be great to one person and not so to another, tough finding a solution that fits everyone, especially in the case of the CR. I like the looks of the bike as it sits, if I wanted a wind blocking bike I would have bought a tourer with a big screen.

Johnnys999, so you aren't going to modify your CR at all?

Laminar told me that they would be glad to make something for the 1125cr. they said just have someone with a cr stop by their office so they can mock it up.

I would go, but I live in central fl so 8000 miles is little steep for me. anyone in so-cal call them and stop by and we can have a great new option.

I like what they have done on other bikes, probably come up with somthing cool for the cr, if someone could stop in, maybe even get a price break on the 1st of the line?

We bought th cr becouse it's naked, but just a little more wind deflection for the highway would be great.

Come on guys, someone be the hero and getter done!
