Last night as I was working on my CR I noticed surface rust on the gas cap under the flap that covers the key hole. Has anyone else experienced this? I stopped by a dealer and they said it most likely wouldn't be covered as it is cosmetic and to stop back by to have them take pictures to submit to harley. | ||

I'd have to look, but I think the only things under there that can rust are the pivot pin for the lock cover (and even that might be stainless), and the tumblers in the lock itself. Most everything is aluminum. Chances are it's just residue from something. Should wipe off. | ||

Maybe zinc not aluminum. The cover over the pins is usually steel. A squirt of cable lube would do good to keep things working and from rusting. | ||

my 9 gas cap has some visible rust. but i wouldn't worry about it. just lube the cylinder and try to keep the bike out of the rain |
