So I just purchased a 2009 1125CR and was browsing the owners manual along with information on the Internet and am still finding some discrepancies. I know the 2008 manual was wrong and was updated to read 2.7 quart (w/filter). So here is my issue: The online Buell owners manuals read as follows under the specification tab: 2008 - 3.0 Quarts w/filter 2009 - 2.7 Quarts w/filter 2010 - 3.3 Quarts w/filter So what the are Buell owners supposed to do with this information? I am under the impression (Correct me if I am wrong) that the engines are identical between the 3 years. What #'s am I supposed to be using for my 2009? This is aggravating! | ||

My experience with my 2009 CR is that if I put in exactly 3 quarts after a filter change, ride it around for a bit (*not* just idle), and check the oil per instructions, the level will be perfect. (shrug) KeS | ||

Dump in 3 quarts and forget about it. The 2010's have changes to the motor, hence the slight increase in capacity. | ||

The engines are different among the three years. There were changes to internals each year that may be the reason for the differences. | ||

Jpinkerton: I did the same as Kevin_stevens on my '09 CR, changed the oil and the filter and put exactly 3 Quarts in and its perfect. Easy! | ||

3 quarts and I am spewing oil everywhere. I've had good luck with 2.7 on both an 08 and 09. | ||

I have a 2009 CR and found out that 3.3 quarts is about right. | ||

I put 3 quarts into my '08 and it was over the "overfull" mark and left a tiny puddle next to the bike in the garage. That might have been oil that I didn't get wiped off after the change, but who knows. 2.7 quarts is probably about right--I drained some oil out to get it down to the right level but I won't know until I do another complete oil change at 620 miles. | ||

Thanks for the replies fellas. I have yet to come across my first oil change since the stealership did the first service before I bought the bike, but I will try 3 quarts out and post up the results. | ||

Works for me and is right at the top of this forum .... Install both drain plugs after oil is thoroughly drained. 1. Tighten left engine oil drain plug to 18 ft-lbs (25 Nm). 2. Tighten right engine oil drain plug to 11 ft-lbs (15 Nm). 8. Install new oil filter cartridge (Part No. Q1064.1AM), if removed. 1. Apply a light film of clean engine oil to the rubber contact surface on the new oil filter cartridge. 2. See Oil Filter Cartridge: Buell 1125R Models. Push new oil filter cartridge into cover until properly seated. 3. Install oil filter cover (with filter) onto crankcase with two screws. Tighten screws to 97 in-lbs (11 Nm). 9. Fill oil through filler (dipstick) hole using recommended oil from Recommended Engine Oils. Always verify proper hot oil level on dipstick. Do not overfill. 1. Oil capacity with filter change is approximately 2.7 U.S. quarts 2.6 liters . 2. Oil capacity without filter change is approximately 2.4 U.S. quarts 2.3 liters . 10. Install (screw in) dipstick into oil fill hole. Make sure dipstick is screwed in completely. NOTE: For ease of installation, apply a light film of clean engine oil to the dipstick o-ring. |
