Gas;

I just looked at your profile and I am too new here to know your bikes setup. Is your bike stock with a flash? How many miles are on the bike?

the 1125's have two 62mm throttle bodies tuber's a single 40mm. three times more carburetion (124 v.s.40) with a short stroke engine that will rev 40% more than a sporty...Comparing apples to oranges?

Gas, I have no opinion at this time but I am glad you have brought this up. This subject is definitely on my radar now.

Froggy I just looked at your profile nice setup!
What type of break-in procedures do you follow?

Thanks, Danny. 1200 miles and bone stock. Latest reflash, but the original flash was about the same, mileage consistently below 30 MPG.

The milage I get on a motorcycle and associated cost of fuel has never been more than an inconsequential curiosity compared to the enjoyment I get riding compared to covering the same milage in a car.

In other words, it is what it is, and I really don't care. Any miles spent on 2 wheels is an order of magnitude better than those spent any other way. Even if my CR gets only 25 mpg - and I haven't cared enough to pay attention - the cost/benefit makes it a total non-issue to me. YMMV ...

I'm sorry but I have to say this.
You guys who "don't worry about it"...
Our bikes are not eco-friendly.
They are polluting MOFOs. At least we could attempt(read try) to get the best mileage we can. If you don't consider that, what kinds of things DO you consider? It's not just a question of economy. It's social ethics. I know that doesn't sit well with the cadre of individualists called bikers. I'm just saying we should all try to do a little better. If we did it would make a difference.

What we need is a good, fast, and available electric bike. Utube it and watch how spectacularly fast those things can be.

When you ride 30k+ miles a year, you will. The main reason I got my Blast was to keep wear and tear down on the rest of the fleet. 85mpg peak, 70mpg typical, $100 for a pair of tires, its hard to beat. But when I am doing cross country trips on my XB or 1125's, I would like to minimize my expenses. Hell, I am still on my original tires on my CR at about 7000 miles.

7000 WOW.... I just got my first new set at 600 miles.. sides gone....Still had lots of tread in th middle.. Should have done some more street riding before changing.. 85MPG IS AWESOME... even for a blast.. I had a ZX9R I put 30k miles on the first year i had it back in 98. I only ride a couple hours a week now..

Gas, Please don't take this the wrong way, but may I ask Why you got the 1125 then? you can easily see that its not the most Eco friendly bike to buy.

I know this but I'm an American who supports this country so even if my bike got gallons per mile I still would have bought it to support the USA. I HATE foreign products of all types.

I feel we could beat the japs at the mpg game if we wanted but obviously we don't because we aren't.

IDK man... guess you should trade in your bike for that electric one so you can save the planet.

Where are you located? Altitude?
Tire pressures?
Flappy jacket?
Short shifting is not always the best... cruising IS. get to the desired speed how ever you get there short of WOT and then cruise.

My R gets 32-34 regularly.. worst was 28 mpg riding with 5 other sportbikes cruising at triple digits in the desert.. i also managed a max speed run for about 4 miles..

Are you shifting all the way to 6th?

I mean for me the consensus seems to be that around 30mpg is the "average". some get higher others get lower.. i know the CR is geared lower, but i drive the crap out of my R i still don;t get near 25mpg...

Have you checked your AFV values to see if they are rich? maybe an O2 sensor is messed up..

My best mpg to date was 43mpg hand calculated... i was cruising with a bunch of HD guys... average speed around 65 mph for 140 miles...

The ecmspy may be a neccessity. Been wanting to jack with my maps, cause I have never done it before. Is it possible a new CR could have a ginked sensor as you say?

The true treehuggers use bicycles and/or mass transit.

Illbuell, do you happen to have those used tires available? I would love to throw them on, and show up at bike night with no tread left on the edges : D

If you are talking about cars, we do. Chevy has best in class fuel economy in just about every category. Hell, Chevy makes the only 500+hp car that doesn't have the federal gas guzzler tax. Even in trucks, the 5 cylinder Chevy Colorado has more power than the V8 Dakota and better fuel economy. Chevy Silverado, even with a 5.3L engine gets better fuel economy than the 4.6L V8 Toyota Tundra. Small cars? Chevy Cobalt 37mpg highway, Corolla? 35mpg. Even the smaller Yaris can't match it.

Bikes on the other hand, its hard to say due to lack of published data. Buell is one of the few that publish it for the entire lineup. Dosen't matter, the testing method is flawed.

You can check your current AFV by going into diagnostic mode. As for messing with the maps, get a race ecm with tuner from EBracing.com

There is no replacement for displacement! : D

How about 305hp out of a 3.6L V6 in the Camaro getting 29mpg? They got a 3L version in the lower end Cadillac CTS that puts out 270hp. For the 4 bangers we got the 2.4L putting out 182hp in the new Equinox. Without the turbo you kill all the fun : )

I do care about mileage guys. And therefore I am quite disappointed in the mpg my R gets. When reading about the bike before getting on Buell's site I expected to be able to go the distance before stopping for more gas. However, now that I have the bike and it gets crappy mpg, I just disregard it and say "hell I am riding for fun." Not the best attitude, but what can I do besides get another bike or do more commuting on my bicycles.
