I don't get it. I went to the site and for $300+ I can buy this thing that enables me to do, it seems, lots of things. But the site does not tell me what I gain from installing this little thing. So currently I have a bike that I just get on and ride (a bike that runs & performs extremely well). Why install something that makes me do extra steps? Or quite simply what do I really get for my $$$?

They are designed to let you adjust the computer controls on the bike to tune the bike beyond what the factory was limited to with emissions laws. Also, if you have modified the intake or exhaust or have other engine modifications you can tune it to work best with those as well. Overall, if you want to be faster, the money would be better spent on a track school

The 2009 and 2008 ecu are the same I will keep you informed. I thought about the Buell ecu but to adjust anything it is an extra 500.00. So I think for a stock muffler and k&n filter I can get rid of some lean surging. And if I change exhaust. I can tune it without spending. Extra money

I do like the auto tune option....but that jumps the price pretty dang high, but it might be my best option for out here in Guam.

I'm giving thought to the Buell ECM kit. Even though it's more than twice the price I think it'll be worth it to actually control the ECM instead of having a piggyback unit manipulating the factory ECM.

You still need somebody with a dyno, who tunes it for about 3 days, to be good...

3 days to tune a bike? Is the Buell software that complicated?

Actually if your willing to learn a little and you have your own wideband with datalogging, you can tune the bike on the street fairly easy... for the max power numbers you then take it to the dyno..

Depending on your mods and far off the base tune is, i could see tuning taking that long or MUCH longer....

Other issues you have is if you live in the mountains, you should probably take a trip down to sea level and do some tuning...desert peeps need to go to humid areas.. etc etc etc..

don't get me wrong this is for fine tuning every little hiccup you encounter... with out all these little adjustments, the bike run fine in your town, but once you leave... it could run like poop.

Datalogging would be VERY helpful and really is necessary to make drivability adjustments..

Moosestang,

If you want to do it proper yes, and it is NOT about max power numbers.

It is very complicated and absolutely IMPOSSIBLE, to tune a 1125 on the street.

The TPS is a difficult area to understand, it is not what you see.

And how the hell are you able to keep your right hand exactly 11.8 TPS for example, impossible.

I want to get rit off the story that on a dyno you make HP.

On the dyno you adjust a bike very proper, and if you just do what is necessary the power comes out.

getting a good MPG is almost art to understand, that is why a lot of people complain, when it was that simple with data logging on the street nobody complained.

I think Justa4banger, has to learn a lot about how simple and in a way complicated a good tune on a bike is. Nobody wants to think it is difficult, but yes it is a matter of time.

I will do data log tuning. I have done this on my Busa and even hacked and adjusted the factory ECM.
At least the PCV get rid of the o2. As they are just for swithing maps and not true closed loop.

I will let you all know how this works. Since I am in Az. I can ride everyday.

I would guess the PC V is not going to be nearly as useful as the programmable ECM from EBR but it's half the price...howeever that savings will soon dissapear in additional tuning expense either dyno or datalogging...amiright? Support EBR and go with the programmable ECM if you really want to get it right.

I'm also talking about drivability not just max hp numbers.

i agree many aspects of a tune are difficult, to impossible, to simulate on the street, but you also have to consider that some aspects of driving can not be replicated on a dyno.. on my cars i have always tuned on a dyno first and then made fine adjustments after datalogging the system while driving around town. a great tune definitely requires time and different enviroment variables to make it "great".

Just a Question here, but won't the temperature, the barostat and other inputs (as stated by Anonymous in his thread below) from the sensors somewhat adjust for those different altitudes and environments, even with 02 sensors disconnected on our 1125 Buells? At least one of the "well respected tuners" has stated this as well.

Anonymous's thread from a while back:

"On #5 question, DDFI3 as implemented on ’08 XB’s will react similarly as past models to intake & exhaust modifications. DDFI3 on the 1125 R has additional sensors that should make it better able to respond to such changes, but of course there are no aftermarket parts for it yet."

The "no aftermarket parts" of course has changed dramatically since his post and we have found out the ECM's adjustability from sensors alone is limited. Just FWIW. Can anyone answer that question above accurately? Bob

Yamaha makes a race only ECM and wiring harness for race bikes. The advantage of adding one of the new PC-V to that system id that you can lower the resolution in the fuel tables down to 250 RPM for a finer tune. The V also let's you add on the trick new modules, like the shifter, and timing. It also supports 0-5 Volt DC data systems like out Dyno Uses. I am supposed to receive one of the Buell 1125 PC-V for some beta testing, I will call DJ on Monday and check on the status. Terry www.jtsperformance.com
