Have never experienced wet clutch "slip" changing from mineral to synthetic on 20+ bikes from the following manufacturers: Aprilia, BMW, Ducati, Honda, Kawasaki, Suzuki, Triumph, and Yamaha. And I don't (or didn't) know of anyone who has- until Jules post. I'm curious about the details- what mileage, condition of clutch, oil weight, etc...

Not sayin' it doesn't happen- just never in my experience/observation.

If your clutch slipped, you probably used an oil with a friction modifier. Most car oils have them, while motorcycle designed oils do not.

No - definately not a friction additive in them that'd (as you rightly say) kill a wet clutch..

My TL1000S (both of them) (and my TL100R - both) were prone to it (you'll see posts about it on various TL Forums) - maybe it's just an issue with them then (LOL)

TBH it's much more likely that these older bikes had always been run on mineral oil (which is not as good at cooling the plates) and the clutches were worn and the fully synthetic just highlighted the issue..

Changing the plates and letting the new ones soak in fully synthetic for a bit always cured the issue and then using fully synthetic going forward presented no further issues.

I love AMSOIL and have used it is all my vehicles for going on 7 years now. I just crossed the 500 mile mark on my 1125r and have 3 quarts of AMSOIL waiting to go into my new machine. I say purchase the AMSOIL. Your manual also says use SYN3. Listen to the manual 620 miles for the first service.

You will need more than 3 qts when you change the oil with a filter, atleast thats my experience. about 3.25 qts were needed.

Why would anyone choose to buy oil from this guy? Remember this the next time you consider filling up at Citgo, or reach for that H-D branded Citgo oil...

Although 4banger's response may have been slightly lacking tact and ego-stroking, he was nonetheless correct to tell the OP to use the seach before posting.

That's always good advice.

Carry on...

Justa4banger, According to everything I have read, 3 qrts is all I'll need. Are you sure you did not over fill your bike? Even this site says it here: http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/290 431/325984.html}
