If you have experience with it, can you tell me what you think is the best rear shock for an 1125R race bike? What did you like about it? Is it rebuild-able?

I've seen Ohlins on a lot of the AMA bikes, but they're $1200+. Anyone have experience with this on their 1125?

Buell has a Showa shock in their catalog for $550. I'm assuming that this shock will be available through EBR. Any experience with this one?

I have the Buell Racing Showa shock and fork cartridges.

I posted a review of them here a while back. The short and long is you won't get better for the money. It's a fantastic shock.

I haven't looked into a shock for my 1125R, but I do have a Penske for my SV650 racebike. The main reason that I chose it over the Ohlins is because it's supposed to be owner serviceable. I've been happy with the performance. It's miles above the level of the stocker.

I saw the Showa shock as well $550.00 for a new shock is a very good price...IF it performs as well as a Penske or Ohlins. Whether the Showa is rebuildable would be a major question too.
Most of the racers that I have talked to about the difference in performance say that there is not a huge difference between the Penske and Ohlins but either one is far better than stock.

My suggestion would be to call Max Mcalister of Traxxion Dynamics and ask him if he has any experience with the aftermarket shocks on the 1125R, or if he can revalve your stocker.

The Buell Race Shock by Showa is better than a revalued stocker.

I had a race-tech revalved stocker, and it was better, but no where near the Buell race shock. The Buell Race Shock also has adjustable ride height.

If you don't go with this shock, the Penske is a great shock, too.

Jdugger, thanks for the post. Once EBR opens for business I'll call and ask about whether or not it's rebuildable.

Family, I thought Max was the guy not to talk to about Buells? Isn't the Buell guy at Traxxion named Jay or Josh? Please correct me if I'm wrong, I need to contact them about AK-20's in the near future.

Buell told me when I bought the shock it would be serviceable by a tech familiar with Showa, for whatever that's worth.

If you got the bread, the Penske is going to be hard to beat, and you can get a triple clicker. The Buell Race is a double only. For me it was a cost/performance trade off.

J, that's what I'm thinking, cost/performance. Over the next 6 months or so I want to build my bike up on the cheap. CR gearing, mag wheels, Flexi-Glass ram air side panels to replace my fan side panels, lighter tail section, AK-20's and Showa shock. All for less than $5K. I'm a club racer, not a pro.
