hi
i like many was not overly impressed with the standard tailpipes so i made these

then i opened up the box, did a few alterations so it looked like this

then i took off the old exhaust, jigged it and made this one with equal headers

That looks GREAT!! Couple questions:
1. Have you dynoed it, and if so what were the results?
2. Do you have a sound clip?
3. how long did it take to fabricate, and how much did it cost to make?
4. Did you make it yourself?
5.Is is Stainless steel?
6. What kind of muffler are you using? and is there an X or cross-over pipe?
7. does it stick out at all, or drag?

THANX for your input and a GREAT looking exhaust ; )

hi yes i made it myself,
i work in motorsports, not dynoed yet,
trying to make some other confirgurations and get a dyno day booked,
its 304 stainless there is a x over in the box took best part of a day with jigging etc, doesn't drag anywhere although not ridden it much due to awful weather here in uk
this should be the sound clip http://s874.photobucket.com/albums/ab305/deathshop /?action=view&current=S7301135.flv

i want to get them perfected first and get a dyno reading, i have a few other ideas, that one is 113 db @ 5000rpm so it won't be any good for a track day here in england, i am going to build another version tomorrow hopefully

i dunno really, i'm sort of doing it as a side line, probably about £500-£600, made quite a few of the exhaust deflectors though

Al - you don't fancy selling your modded stock exhaust do you? If so any thoughts on a price?

I'm not that far away (in Glos) :-)

Nice work Alan, looks good, sounds good. Great road clearance. You did well mate and if any dyno numbers and street performance hold up it will be a total success. One of the nicest of all I have seen yet. Bob

I really like the first pic. I'm not really interested in swapping out the whole exhaust at this time, but do want to protect my rear frame. Are you interested in selling a set of those tips with a small how-to?

Your exhaust mod improves that area it occupies, otherwise the exhaust design sucks. Looks like a cheap fix. Sometimes the Buell is built come hell or high water because Buell will not budge in regards to alternative routing for the exhaust. There is this belief that it looks better and centralizes weight, etc. I think the bike would have looked much better with traditional exhaust. Owner feedback and feedback in general tells you the stock system is not liked. However, it might be a case where a traditional exhaust isn't practical because it simply won't fit. The swingarm is wider than a frig just to hide the rear caliper, thus taking up space to route the pipes. Who needs a hidden caliper anyway?

I think the last picture prototype is on the right track, without the black coffin.

Johnny999,

The reason Buell went with the pipe under the bike IS for mass centralization, think about it would you rather have 10-20 pounds of steel on the side or under the bike? if you get into a wreck the exhaust will NOT be touched either comparatively to "Conventional" exhaust to the side where it would have been CRUSHED and you would of had to forked out alot of $$$ to get a new one. Also the stock exhaust has yet to be VASTLY improved upon by the aftermarket, with a tune the stock exhaust in right on par with almost every aftermarket exhaust made for the 1125. The only advantage most exhaust have is a weight advantage. Also where is your proof that "Owner feedback and feedback in general tells you the stock system is not liked." because i guarantee that 99.9% of ALL buell riders like the exhaust underneath the bike and it looks MUCH cleaner IMHO... Also if you'll notice more and more jap bikes are putting their exhaust UNDER the bike..so i guess something might be working eh?

As for the hidden caliper, the purpose behind that is to eliminate more unsprung weight, with no calpier bracket you eliminate around 3 pounds, which may not sound like alot, but in a market where people by bikes on spec sheets every little bit helps, also the less unsprung weight the better the bike will handle (which we know is what buell is all about).

I will agree on on thing though, Alberts exhaust looks great!!

But if all your gonna do is bash on what makes a buell, a Buell, than maybe you should just leave and go back to ridding jap bikes...

Buell is thinking outside the box.I like it. My jap friend riders do too. But they didn't like the availability of go fast parts and the race license required bull.
But that's all gone now let the parts flow!!

I don't mind the exhaust where it is. I don't mind the Original design. What I mind is that the exhaust shoots nasty crud all over my powder coated frame and ruins it and the rim.... A very big oversight IMHO.

I will definitely be investing in these tips....

My wheels were completely trashed after 14k .The wheel started to look brown.I resorted to all kinds of cleaners and ended up using ms100 ppg paint thinner and they still loooked horrible. So i ended up doing some powdercoating.A friend of mine hooked my wheels ,exhaust shield, trees, fairing bracket, and swingarm up for 180.00
