I have noticed the past few times I have started my cold bike I hear a loud metallic clanking from the engine. It comes and goes during warm up, after its warm I don't hear it. It has been alot colder during these recent start ups. I get the cold false low fuell light issue too.

It sounds like this @ idle warming up.
(putt=normal sound of helicon)
Putt, Putt, Putt, Putt, Putt, Putt, Putt, Putt, Putt, Putt, Putt, Putt, CLANK, CLANK, CLANK, Putt, Putt, Putt, Putt, Putt, Putt, Putt, Putt, Putt, Putt, Putt, Putt, CLANK, CLANK, CLANK, Putt, Putt, Putt and so on.

The CLANK is louder than the Putt.

It makes me cringe when I hear it.

Any Ideas?

I seem to remember people complaining that it was the design of the clutch that makes them so loud on start up. Try holding the clutch in ans see if it still "clanks"?

My 09 sounds similar to that, kind of a clunk/clank (with a gait) that comes and goes during warm-up idle. I thought it was coming from the valve train but I don't know for sure.

I change my oil on close intervals, about half the mileage that the book prescribes to keep track the frags on the oil plug magnet. I don't see anything serious on the magnet but I could see evidence once I went to clutchless shifts. The evidence was minimal and it cleared out on the latest oil change.

Noisey engine, no doubt about it, and with the exhaust being so quiet, it really makes its noises clear.

Like you, I have been concerned about the racket for over 6,000mi,, but it hasn't affected its get up & go much, so, Hammer Down! while its still in warranty.

Does no one here have a video camera? These clunk, clank, putt, gaits could all be settled with one video.

Personally I don't need to get out the Vid cam. I have a bunch of biking friends and they all have wanted me to start My 1125 after the discussion about it at first meeting. They all had the same look on their faces once they heard it running,, and it wasn't ever a good look.

Most of them I dared them to take it out and ring it to red line in every gear. The look on their faces were much different when they came back.

Mine sounds much better at idle now that it has over 1,000 miles on it. It was quite noisey at first.

I'll make an idle video if it ever warms up here. Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!
