It bothers me in so many ways. I just wish I could contact the marketing genius that wrote it.

Yea, got it.

It doesn't bother me. I have 3 of the things, they are fun, and I ride the hell out of them.

Collector's items? Hardly. Mine are abused and put upon so badly that in 2-3 years if any of the three run it will be because I've cobbled together parts from all three to keep one running.

Buy 'em to run them into the ground, hopefully just figuratively. They are toys, not garage jewelery.

Good thinking AC! Once you write it, you better be ready to do it ; ) That email was astonishing ... As if I needed more proof how little H-D understand the Buell community.

"The only collector's item that comes with seven years of support."

Must be the same ad agency they have been using lately.

Ruthless Engineering.

I got to admit that in the days following the announcement of the betrayal, the thought did occur to me to buy a second one and stash it away, "Red Barchetta" style, for my kid.

Really though, it would probably end up in pieces, like Jdugger's extra 2.

Marcodesade writes "betrayal"

____________-

Do you also give Harley credit for buying Buell in the first place then, giving R&D dollars to develop the Successful line of XB bikes. Credit, for giving the green light to get an engine from heaven?

Harley only gets the blame for the basements full of 1125s?

Do they get credit for fixing the supply and demand by correcting the price on the 1125 series to meet its value?

+1 Zac!

I bought mine in 2008 at full price, fully aware of the fuel issues, battery drains, bad IC, kickstand spring and whatever other problems there were out there. I'd do it again. Take your duc elsewhere.

I've never understood people that own a brand (in this case Ducati) and feel it necessary to hate another. Seriously, are things really that shallow? I've never bought a Ducati (although I have thought about it) ... Maybe I should go on a Duc board and rag on them. Or better yet, I'll just realize how juvenile that is and not pee in other's Cheerios.

Why are you discussing the F800GS here?

Harley only gets the blame for holding Buell back, then ultimately pulling the plug when things were just starting to get good. It could be argued that Buell would be further ahead now if they didn't get bought by HD 10 years ago, but it also could be argued that Buell would of gone under instead.

well, there it is ^^^ , eh?

my uninformed guess is that the original, independent Buell company
would've likely failed without H-D's original support

further, that H-D enabled the XBs' creation [via Blast development]

however, H-D also continuously mismanaged its Buell subsidiary
in a bazillion ways, large & small, to BMC's ultimate demise

kids often resent their parents -
but they wouldn't be here without them, either.......

that's where I am now with the 'new' Buell dealers -
I deeply appreciate their commitment & investment
and will continue to [attempt to] purchase parts from them

however, my admiration for H-D enabling Erik for all these years
has morphed into an undying post-10/15 enmity for the %#@* Mothership

Thats not true. Buell was my favorite manufacture for several years. I have purchased 5 new ones. I bragged about them and still do Belt drive great handling.

My deep frustration in losing the only American sport bike manufacture and my favorite is I think it was more of a suicide than a murder.

The 1125 should have turned the market upside down. It had all the winning components.

Its pre mature launch and talk on the town then killed the brand. Harley had no choice.

Who ever approved the unfinished 1125 then let it remain for three years is to look at.

Harley would not have pulled the plug if these bikes were all that they should have been. They would have stolen market share from all over.

That close to having it all!!!!! Thats why I'm so frustrated as Americans keep shooting them selves in the foot for stupid reasons.

How did this get through a design committee? what manager signed off on it. Who ok'd bikes that were not running right?

That was to be the bike the TRUE Buell believers were waiting for. All we needed was an engine and we blew it.

Yes I'm having great trouble watching my favorite bike manufacture kill its self.

PS, its ok to like more than one bike brand if you are a bike enthusiast.

THe tread title is calling out a poor marketing mood, I'm just saying that is one but a string of VERY bad choices.

Harley only mistake was not replacing top Buell management after the 08 release.

Ducdood, I can salute that. I've not seen your name, and just figured you were here to bash. My bad ... I've only had a couple of Buells, so you're ahead of me.

I guess now's a bad time to mention I've owned H-D big twins for a couple of decades ; ) But I think the 1125R cured me of that problem. I can see a Ducati in the mix ...

Thanks Mike, Emotions run high at this time. Everyone is pointing fingers.

I have been critical of the 1125 as I thought a water cooled it would be a dominator in the market place.

They are buy far the best handling bikes made. I will miss them much.

Except the market (and economy) turned upside down. Hell you can't even get 2010 Suzuki models because they are waiting for the 08's and 09's to clear off the floor.

Rushed yes, but it wasn't unfinished. The issues that showed up in post production are the issues that are hard to find in pre production testing. Some things like the clutch cover weep probably never reared its ugly head in the testing phase, as they had only a handful of units.

Yep, Harley shot itself in the foot with the bike. It was supposed to come from the factory full faired, but that got shot down. There probably was a dozen other things that failed to make it to production. The Barracuda 2 bike that was spotted recently was proof that Buell was finally starting to get some of their long awaited ideas into production.

quote:

Who ok'd bikes that were not running right?

I am yet to see a bike that didn't run right. Some of the early mapped bikes that I have ridden aren't as great as the newer mapped ones, but they still ran fantastic. Most of the fueling issues I have read are from extra picky magazine editors who had nothing else to complain about.

Harley only mistake was not replacing top Buell management after the 08 release.

Actually, it was Harley's mistake for replacing top Harley management in the last year.

I've always thought of Buell riders as motorcycle enthusiasts. I have five different brands in the garage, including a Ducati, and I enjoy every one. Is one better than another? No, just different, or intended for a different style of riding. Don't limit your enjoyment to one brand, you'll be missing a lot.

ducdood9 makes a couple good points in his 2nd post.I've been anxiously awaiting the 1125r since the rumors first started. But I work too hard for my $ to jump on a first year production model of any make. HD top level mgmt is really to blame for buell's demise. The 1125r and its subsequent variants that should have followed were finally on the right track to win races and market share over all other brands. I think if harley would have left MV alone, buell would still be rockin it HARD!!
