I'm thinking of swapping out my windscreen bolts for black ones. I see a bunch of them on ebay, in different sizes, most of which include something called "wellnuts" (which I don't even know what they are). Here's one of many examples:

Can someone tell me what size bolts I'm looking for, whether I need wellnuts, and for that matter what wellnuts are? Also, are the aluminum ones OK, or should I stick with stainless?

If you take off your windscreen, you'll find rubber washer/nuts ("wellnuts") stuck in the bodywork under the windscreen.

If you're doing bolts and wellnuts...you can get any size you want as long as they match.

Thanks, Rat.

So are aluminum bolts --- the majority of the ones I'm seeing --- OK, or should I go with one of the few offerings in SS?

Aluminum are ok but, for the little extra I'd go with the SS. One note, if it's below 45-50 degree warm up the Wellnuts with a hair dryer other wise you can tear them when they are cold. (Been there, done that) It also allows them to spring back once they have been compressed.
