I'm your same age and went with the 08' r. After 31,000+ s'miles, I would not trade it for the world! Oh yeah and 25+ farkels. If you need some ideas of what to do to make it "yours", we have those ideas. From footpegs to bars to saddle bags and more.

Ride it like you stole it.

Moosetang, any chance you could put a picture of your bar end mirror on here. I like the look without the mirrors. I'm in the process of removing mine and putting a bar end on just the L side too.

I'm keeping the clubman bars on mine in prep for the track. My hubby just put the high bars on his cause he doesn't like being so leaned over. Getting old is a B***H!!! (that's for you men out there : ))

For me, I love my R... but i have the fairing kit which IMO really makes the bike....

It does give it a different profile. But IMHO a little too much plastic. Maybe some graphics to break up that expanse of black.

The side fairings make it look like a Katana.

I have a cheap ebay bar end. I had to remove the large aluminum retainer and used only the small one with a piece of silicone tube on the end to take up the gap. The stock bars are tapered on the inside, so the bar ends would not go all the way in.

Thanks Moosestang, I like it. IT LOOKS MEAN. What did you do for blinkers. I'm thinking of just ordering the stock one's and installing them on the side behind the headlights.

Again, thanks

My hubby is home today and preping the L side to take the bar end mirror. Can't wait

I put some smoked flush mounts on as well as 12 inch led strips in the pods. Along with short stalk leds to replace the large rear ones. No need to install resisters with this setup as it will flash normally while the bike is running.

Here's a better shot of the mirror with the traction grips.

here's some of the flush mount turn signals.

And a video of the pod signals.

The led strips are sold on ebay for $16 shipped and they are covered in black plastic which makes them nearly invisible. I had to add emblem tape from the auto parts store because the stuff that comes on them doesn't stick for long. I wired both front signals to the stock wires.

I do agree the fairings needs something to break up all that black... i got something in mind but i need to think about it more..

IMO i dunno if i could love the bike with its original looks, those pods look so strange to me.... On the flip side the bike sure is a hoot to ride regardless of looks

I think I was interested in the CR over the R mostly because it was the last model Buell came out with. Shallow and largely irrelevant, maybe - but we all have our own value propositions to satisfy.

That said, I don't like the clubman handlebars and bought the "high bars" (which aren't that high...) but didn't get them on before putting it away for the winter.

And, re: the pods, I have to say I've come to like them. EVERY other bike now looks so commonplace (boring) in comparison. Folks can think my CR is ugly/weird/whatever - and I couldn't care less, because the package works for me. Particularly in black - nothing else looks nearly so menacing and intense. I like it!

my current rides...

im 32. mind of a teenager, and body of someone twice my age.... the young mind is the only thing that keeps my messed up body moving. i have broken almost a quarter of the bones in my body. i think at last check it was around 46 of them. some fused vertebra, a rebuilt left forearm(new tendons and arteries) and well over 1000 stitches holding me together(600 in one shot). so i may not be AS old but i may very well be more messed up lol.

i have had my 03 xb9r since spring of 04. 20 some thousand miles on it. love it. bought the first 08 1125r that came into my shop. only around 6000 some miles on it. love it. just bought the only black 09 1125 cr we had in the shop right after the announcement. only a few hundred miles on it.

i will say for longer rides, i think the r's are better. they really cut down on the wind blast. keeps you from getting worn out as easily. unless your putting the high bars on the cr, there is not much difference in seating position. whatever you do put the lower pegs on it. i say that and dont have them on any of my current bikes lol. i did have them on one of my 12r's and it was noticeably more comfortable. i put 700+ miles on that bike in one day and wasnt COMPLETELY shot.

for a sportbike the r's are very comfortable. plus you do have room to shift around and adjust your seating position on long rides. im 6'1" and it isnt to bad.

so... i guess my opinion is, well it depends on what your doing... all of them wheelie really well...!
