the only problem iv had is the heat shield seperated at high speed and at high speed I mean 130+.(I blame it on my excitement to install I didnt prep the surface good enough) it layed on the pipe and burned a hole in it but i put it back on and its ok for now. I havent had another high speed run so i don't know if it will hold.

i did have some problems with my fairings. you either have to wrap pipes or install spacers on mounting hardware. i did notice while doing pre-ride inspection/coolant inspection that l/s hardware was different from r/s hardware.
my melting fairing issue was easily resolved by simply adding spacers(any thick washer)and longer screw to mounting plate.

i tried to load pix but site said pix exceeded size but darrell sent pretty much same ones i have. as far as speed is concerned just make sure you tighten hardware snug not too tight just to avoid stripping nutplates and/or cracking plastic.

Is there a belly pan available that goes with the lowers without fabrication?

I made the other posting about the fairing starting to warp due to heat, well melt.... The dealer added some spacers on the lower fairing to bracket mounting points. this pushed the fairing out far enough to keep it from touching, then i purchased some heat reflective tape and covered up the burned section of the original heat shield..

It works now as advertised without issue.. the thing that pisses me off is i drove this bike 80 miles in 70* weather before turning it into the dealer for service....No melting issues... I get the bike back and i have a problem after a 8 mile ride in 45* weather....

Overall mine isn't in bad shape and i would have to point it out to most people to see the melting area...

On a side note, there is a bulletin out from Buell to Dealers about ENSURING there is 1/4" gap between the fairing and header... if there isn't, then adjust the brackets to ensure you get the clearance... my dealer just called me 2 days ago about this bulletin.

It just makes the upper fairing blend in with the rest of the bike so much better.

Just need to find a belly pan that will interface to them correctly.

I installed my side fairings exactly as described in the instructions that came with them. They included some heat insulation for the right side fairing that covers the headers. This is the result of 1200 miles on the bike:

Luckily, the outside doesn't look bad at all, The center of the picture below where the slight distortion is slightly bowed out. You have to really look for it.

I bought more heat insulation and may try the tip above of bending the brackets so that the header doesn't press against the inside of the fairing. I posted several times before, but for those who haven't seen it, here are the black fairings on my red 09 1125R. I call him Darth Maul.

The fairings definitely change the look of the look of the bike. The demo I rode had perhaps 400 miles on it and dealer-installed fairings with the adhesive-backed heat shield. While riding I noticed a strong smell of burning plastic and upon inspecting it when I returned to the dealer the front cylinder pipe was touching the heat shield with the plastic on the outside too hot to touch. The rear cylinder pipe was touching the opening near the back of the fairing and melting its own clearance on the opening's edge. Perhaps it was improperly installed, perhaps it was just poor quality or poor design.

i figure with bending the brackets, dding spacers, nd even buying some of that metal tape stuff (its like aluminum or something we have some at work) it shouldnt be an issue of me melting it... s for a belly pan i plan to make one myself... i need either the one from buell that states "works with no other body work" or one from a firebolt... from there i will cut and fiberglass it till i get it where it works... im pretty hndy with fiber glass and believe i can make something with a bit of time.... only issue is $$$$ i dont have any right now to buy the bell pan to start messing with but if someone has one to donate or sell for cheap i can see what i can do... i have a full week off work between xmas nd new years and all the stuff needed to do it, except for the belly pan lol

High Country Buell was taking orders and selling them for $339 + shipping. Not sure they are still available.

Thanks I allready bought one tho..... Was tryin to hold out on sayin till I got it on the bike. And had some kind of belly pan. Tho I didn't get it from there I did get a really good deal.but then again I found out that any dealer that had 1-4 25r got 1 free fairing kit and if they had 5+ they got 2 kits free. Also found out dealer pays 299 for them when they order it

the distortion in the fairing from the heat looks just like mine...

i added some adhesive heat wrap to the fairing and of course now its spaced out... so far... no more problems.. we'll see how it does in 100* temps though.. right now its in the 40-50's

Justa4banger - how did you choose to space it out so it doesn't touch the fairing on the inside? Thanks

Ditto on that question^^

I just removed mine until a new heat pad arrives. I had no issue until I made a Dyno Run. Guess that got the pipe hot enough to bun through the pad.

If you are spacing them are you spacing between bracket and engine case or between bracket and fairing?

Do you use longer bolts if it goes into the case?

Any chance the dealers will have a fix kit for this?

i did fail to state that i was at the dealer when i remembered the melting fairing issue. they should have all the hardware.afterall they are the ones partly responsible for any issues that arise from these frames. a buell tech spaced it for me in a matter of minutes.

the spacers should be placed on the inside of the fairing. and the bolt length should compensate for the amount of spacers installed. it's quite simple to do. i'm just picky and i wanted to be sure the proper hardware was installed. not to mention i did'nt even have the correct hardware to begin with.

Thanks for the info. I can probably come up with a spacer. Waiting on some more heat shield. I'm tempted to wrap the pipe right at that bend too.

Mountainstorm - that is an excellent idea. I am putting more layers of heat insulation over where the included one burned through, and going to wrap the pipe at that point for good measure. Thanks!

I don't want to space it out as I think it looks best tucked in. If you've seen them installed, it makes the bike as wide as a Hayabusa!

I got the heatshield this morning and repaired the area and gave it a test ride and feel no warmth through the fairing. I layered the adhesive backed heat shield material.

I made a 1/4" spacer for the lower front right bracket to space it out from the case. Would have liked a longer screw and might have to track one down. Even with multiple layers I manage to get a decent gap between pipe and shield. Sure wish I had known about this before it happened.

The dealer i went to in Vegas added 2 longer bolts and 1/2" spacers to push the fairing away from the header.... I found that after they did that i still needed to bend the lower brackets to get adequate spacing....

the issue i have is i drove this bike for 70 miles and had NO TOUCHING.. no melting , nothing.... Now i have to use spacers, so i'm more curious on what the dealer did to change the spacing... the header is fixed, the fairing is somewhat movable... i dunno.

Oh i bought adhesive style heat wrap at Autozone.... its in the section with all the chevy chrome junk....
