I thought my 08 1125 had a kick stand switch so it couldn't be ridden with the stand down. The other day I rode off with mine down. Are they able to do that, or is mine broken?

That is normal, nothing broken on your bike!

The U.S. spec models do not have the sidestand switch. The International models do.

That's crazy. I figured the US lawyers would make them do it. I want one for my bike cuz I'm a bonehead sometimes.

The kickstand was designed to come up automatically when it hits an object (the ground). I haven't seen this feature work on the 1125 but my xb12ss works quite good. I think the xb's stand is more springy and comes up easily.

I too am an official card carrying member of the bonehead club!

I'll try and find out the part number for the switch. It should be a simple bolt-on and plug in. I know the electrical plug is already on the bike.

Heck, I ride off with mine down a couple times a month!

Leave the stand down, it whacks the ground and retracts.

Put the motorcyclists version of idiot strings gor mittens on, that switch goes bad, you're stuck on the side of the road trying to bypass the switch.

Tough call.

Yep...I was on the last leg of the trip home from work when the kick stand spring decided it didn't want to be attached any longer.
I drove about 10 miles with the stand flopping around.

Somewhat luckily, with the design of the kickstand...the wind hits it and pushes it fairly high, out of the way of the road surface.

Just gotta watch it moving slowly.

Mike

P.s. - I now pack a bungy cord..!

One of the demo CRs at Willow Springs a year ago had lost its kickstand spring as well. May be worth carrying a spare.

Little bit of 550 cord and a slip knot will work great as well. Just put the 550 cord under your pillion.

Better than all of these: Zip ties.

Tie it up if the spring breaks (which mine has done 4 times now), then when you need to stop, simply break the zip by forcing the stand down.

The little 1/4" zippies work great.

I'm trying to envision myself straddling the bike and standing it up, then reaching down, holding the side stand in position, and fitting a zip tie. Every time I stop until I get another spring.

I'm going with the spare spring. : )

The problem with the spare spring idea is you tend to loose the linkage as well.

And, the proper procedure is lean bike against wall, fit zip, get on bike. : )

*trust* me on this one, I've done many a long ride with a broken kick stand.

I have a mini rear stand carried on a fabbed bracket. That way if anything breaks, I can hike the bike up for the necessary repairs.
