this part should really be made out of metal. the plastic gets way too soft with the engine heat..

Every vehicle I have ever owned had a plastic dipstick as far as I can remember.

Dammit, I typo'd the part number. It is indeed Q1127.AM. Thanks, Crswede.

Xnoahx, you are correct. I think I did get a bit ham-fisted with it. I learned my lesson. I'm not used to having a damn dipstick. I'm used to a sight glass. Oh, well.

The bike is still rideable for now until the dipstick comes in. : )

The salesman cross threaded mine when I was picking it up. I ran it back and forth a few times being sure to keep the dipstick level throughout. The threads on the engine case acted as a die for the soft plastic on the dipstick. If yours isn't too far gone it may be worth a try.

Ron,

I tried that today. They're pretty bunged up. I'll try again, though. Thanks.

The dipstick is a whopping $4.

What would you rather happen, A cheep easy to replace dipstick be cross threaded or the Side of the case get cross threaded thats a pain to fix.

Yes it is a cheep part, Yes I screwed min up to but I am fine with it. It is cheap for a reason.

Same problem. I caught mine in time so that it wasn't trashed.

The problem isn't that it's plastic. It's that it's a soft plastic -- and that it gets softer with engine heat. The other problem is that the thread diameter is too small, making it easy to it slightly when inserting it (stop snickering Beavis).

Just to protect my good name, what I wrote that was edited out was "...easy to C0CK it slightly when inserting it..." Guys, the word C0CK is a commonly used mechanical term. Badweb should err on the side of letting the occasional "dirty word" slip through rather than making it look like members (going to auto-censor "members", too?) typed something inappropriate when they did not.

Whats funny is you can say cockpit. On another board I am on, you couldn't say "Dick", so it was always fun to read an article about the then vice president. : )
