I bought a new 09 CR from Pig Trail HD/Buell in Rogers AR last month. At time of sale the sales guy and myself did a very short walk around the bike in a somewhat shady area of the set up shop. At the time all looked good, I did not expect to have to look it over with a fine tooth comb being a new bike. Anyway, sales guy told the bike was used a few demo rides, no big deal I thought. Got home in the bright sun light and was amazed at all the scratches I saw in the plastic, damaged right side foot peg and scratched up clutch plug... I took many pictures of the damage before I unloaded the bike. I called the dealer informed them of the damage I saw and was instructed to send pictures of the damaged parts with the bike still loaded. (the dealer is 300 miles away) Over many phone conversations I was assured all parts will be replaced. After patiently waiting for my parts I get an email stating they sent all my foot peg and clutch plug but no plastic!!!! (I just want the air box cover replaced) What can I do to get this resolved? I just want what was promised...

What was wrong with the airbox cover? These colored plastics will get light scratches, nothing you can do to stop that. They can be buffed out though. I'm always scratching my rear seat cowl.

It sounds like your dealer went out of their way. They didn't have to send you anything, since you took possession all ready.

If you took the bike in that condition I say it's your fault. hate to say that, but you should have asked to look the bike over in proper light.

There is a pretty good scratch on the side of the airbox cover....not just a scuff.

By the way, what are you using to clean up the scuffs? I was under the impression that you cannot polish the plastics.

Cafe, I've been in auto sales for quite some time, a new vehicle should be just that...no damage. I have had customers come in days later finding dings or other minor issues...we had to fix them.

I think they should replace the plastic if the scratch is that bad. I have two stories I'll share:

First was my first brand new car. The wheels had a very cool looking but rather delicate finish on them. When I took delivery, I didn't notice some chips in the finish on one of the wheels. I called the dealer after the fact and they agreed to replace it. In order to keep me from waiting, they were going to just swap a wheel out with another car on the lot. As it turned out, my wheels were much darker than was typical, so replacing one wheel would have been a mismatch. Instead, they swapped out all four and gave me a $100 gift certificate for my trouble. THAT'S customer service.

Story numero dos:

I just bought a 2002 Buell S3T - like you, it from a dealer far away - 200 miles and 4 hours in my case. Needless to say, I was buying the bike on photos alone and the word of my sales person. I had asked specific questions - make sure there are no cracks in the saddle bags, make sure all the motor isolators are in good shape, etc. When I showed up to get the bike, I looked it over as well as was reasonable. They were about to send me out the door with an empty gas tank, a tail light out and loose screw on the leg fairing. It took them an hour to fix that, and the thing hadn't even been washed in god knows how long. After I got it home, I gave it a good look over and found that not only was there a crack in the saddlebag AND the front isolator was bad, but the head mount had broken a bolt inside the head and the rear tire was the wrong size to the point that it had rubbed through the inner fender. This bike was supposedly gone over twice by Buell technicians. They assured me they'd fix everything but the saddlebag, and I was willing to live with that. Then they refused to replace the tire and fender stating that I had gone back into the service area and it was pointed out to me - no such thing happened, and after I called them liars (in more words), they again agreed to do the tire and fender. A week later, they woudln't do it, again claiming that I knew about it. After I again called them liars, they tried to tell me that it must have my buddy with me that they showed it to. In the end, they wouldn't replace the tire and fender. That is BAD customer service. I've owned the bike for a month and it's been in the shop waiting to get fixed since.

Again, they should replace the plastic.
