ok well i'm coming up on my 620 mile service and the harley dealer quoted me $450 dollars to perform the service.. i was looking over the manual and its basically and oil and filter change and inspection.. i can do this myself for ALOT cheaper.. am i missing something.. do i really need to take it to the dealer and drop that much money.. or do can i just follow the manual and do it my self.. some guidance is very welcome.. thanks guys..

Just keep your receipt and do it yourself. Just make sure your aware there are 2 drain plugs. Another tip is when you drain the oil on the left plug put the kickstand right into the drainpan. The oil is going to hit the kickstand anyway so you might as well get it in the pan.The kickstand is not that hard to wipe down. Also it holds 3 quarts.

Do it yourself. Keep a written record of everything you did.

My dealer listed it at 285, only one for 250 miles around, not much choice there. Already have everything to do the change, just need warmer weather to put the miles on.

BTW my dealer wanted $420. I went to the dealer, bought 3 quarts of syn3, filter, and 3 Buell shirts for $88. Thats more like it. Granted the Buell shirts are on clearance but all the reason to spend wisely.
