With HD starting to dump parts for the buell's I had a bit of concern about the availability of them for say wreck repair. So being the curious sort I asked my GM (I work at a Harley dealer) what will happen when all the dealers dump the parts and then some one needs them for repairs?(for the record I got I guy that dropped off his wrecked 25R to get fixed why he was in Iraq) And get this I was told that if repair parts were needed we and by we I mean the dealer would have to call around to the OTHER buell dealers and look for parts. WTF !!!!! So keep the rubber side down or at least crash now while theirs parts around.

HD hasn't dumped any parts yet.

The call around to other dealers thing has been around for years, and can help whenever there is a backorder from the distributor.

I am doubting that your GM is correct. With $12K bikes, many of which are financed through HD and/or which include purchased HD extended service, telling customers "sorry, no parts available" is a sure way for HD to end up in court, possibly slapped with a class action lawsuit.

Now I have heard that HD is dumping parts for the tubers and I'm sorry about that, but those are old enough that it's not unreasonable.

But for XBs and 1125R/CR models? After Erik's comments on Buell.com about HD being committed to supplying parts? How many people bought because of that assurance?

I understand what your saying and completely agree, but the list that came out the other day with a lot of p/a stuff on it that HD was liquidating. And that ebay listing with a dealers entire Buell parts inventory on it.and what about the riding gear that a few weeks ago HD dumped at like 90% discount and now it gone never to be seen again. If you have any of this stuff what if you need to replace it? Where do you go? A lot of dealers would rather dump the inventory then play the calling game looking for parts. I am sure there are dealers out there that truly and wholeheartedly supported Buell But there is a lot more that didn't.And right now their all playing "not it" so they wont be the last man standing with parts. And as for Erik's comments I believe him I just don't trust HD. They have to make parts available but they don't have to make them easy to get.

I don't think if Harley Davidson files for bankruptcy within the seven years, as many have mentioned they would like to see, that the same laws would apply to the Buell Parts Supply and Service?

>>>>thats federal law.

Everybody says that . . . and I'm sure it's right . . but NO ONE can cite the law.

I think I have most the laws, rules and regs related to motorcycles.

I can find the law in Australia under their consumer protection laws.

I know it's 10 years for Europe and Japan and 7 years for the United States . .

But . . . I'd love to see THE ACTUAL LAW.

All the inventory reduction have been accessories and lifestyle stuff - not parts that are mission critical to being able to support the bikes - warranty and ongoing service. I think there's a big difference.

Keep in mind that some of those "accessories" may be under warranty. If they were purchased/installed as part of the sale they are covered.
