Great looking exhaust. I might have to sell off some body parts and get one. Anyone need a kidney? : D

Looking forward to the sound clips. Have fun!

Free Spirits' website states "Il peso totale è di soli 5.805 kg. incluso il necessario per il montaggio.", which translated says "complete this weighs only 5.8 kg including all mounting hardware"; that's 12 3/4 lbs. Yes, I'm only deducing, from the weight of my own bare muffler, that the whole of the oem system is unlikely to be 15 lbs. heavier.

On the other hand, Free Spirits does say about their STREET, slip-on version minus all the bag-of-snakes tubing (it's the full version they call 'race' that's pictured in this thread) that "L’intero gruppo pesa solo 4.234 kg. incluso il necessario per il montaggio, si monta sui collettori originali velocemente e senza alcuna modifica.", which is stating that this version is 4 1/4 kg. (9 1/3 pounds). So if even the slip-on version isn't 15 pounds lighter, then my analysis is that the race version isn't, either. Reasonable deduction?

But I'll admit my own weighing method might be inadequate, given that I'm using an electronic bathroom scale; I'm not really in the business of weighing anything other than family members.

Very thorough investigation of exact weight saving discrepencies. Your gold medal is in the mail... but seriously Red - I think you got a little obsessed on this point. Lets mooooove on ; )

Deadly, deadly DEADLY exhaust. I am of the opinion that if you buy a big twin you owe it to the bike to fit some kind of beastly exhaust to let it roar. I'm in the 'yeah your damn right I spent 1k on an exhaust' club and not ashamed to say it is the single best investment I've made for this bike so far. Freespirits did a good job on this one and I'm glad someone ponied up to tell us all about it.

Without the google translated Italian, a light weight aftermarket exhaust will save you 10-15 pounds...probably closer to 15 pounds depending on what you believe the stock exhaust to weigh.

Thank goodness, tman, i don't give a rat's ass about what you think of my posts. It's in the interests of the Board for the information posted to be correct. The good news for you is that I'm unlikely to give a rat's ass about YOUR posts, either.

With that in mind, I did have the weight of my spare 08 'n' (no cat) muffler incorrect, due to using a bathroom scale.

To ascertain this, I schlepped it down to the post office and it recorded 19.19 kg, which is ~20#. Mine may be a bit heavier than stock, given that it's covered with welds where most panels were cut out and then rewelded back into position by a muffler shop.

This is not the muffler that is on my bike, which is an 09 "n" with the third pipe tapped into the final chamber.

Wow, go away for a few days and its turns into a rope pissing contest. First, I'm not going to take the system off to weigh it, when I have it ceramic coated in a few months I will. I meant to prior to install and well, I got excited and forgot...what can I say? But I can state with no doubt that the OEM muffler is 19.9 lbs. That is from a certified electronic scale.

The header pipes are lighter than the OEM header pipes and the entire lower system is much ligher than the OEM muffler. The heft test felt like about 15 lbs. I lift weights regularly and I know what a 10 vs. a 12 vs. a 15 vs. a20 lbs dumbell feels like. Besides, my Jardine saved about 14 lbs. It weighted 6 on the same scale. Regardless...gee whizz...

I shot some simple camera video and it sounded "blatty" on the video. I'll see if I can round up a better video camera.

I took the bike to the local Austin Buell night and folks liked the sound.

Back to work...

damn you guys are touchy sometimes...

I think the weight savings *is* important! Thanks for trying to get info to us. I appreciate the effort and info.

Looking forward to seeing what the new FS weighs, and Dyno!

Of course a couple vids with sound in the meantime wouldn't hurt!

Nice looking setup - thx for sharing Hellgate!
