I was going over my 1125R recently and realized that the VIN on my frame was different than the VIN on my paperwork.

They sold me the wrong bike!

My dealer was great, sent someone right out to redo all the paperwork and now, after a quick call to my insurance agency, everything is fine.

But that could have been bad.

Check your VIN!

A Honda dealer near me did the same thing with a co-workers Civic, they are still straightening it out.

That happened to me with my ZX-14. They called back a couple of weeks later and told me I needed to come in and fix the paperwork. I said "Screw that, give me my new bike!".

Happened to me when I bought the 1125R in Feb 09 -- check the #s yourself! Took 6 weeks to straighten out. At least I didn't lose much riding time, what with winter weather, but what aggravation. They called me the day before I was heading off for vehicle inspection, could have been a catastrophe.

Same thing happened to me but they figured it out before I picked it up. The dealer I got the bike from picked it up from another dealer and the original dealer that had it gave them the wrong number.

I just had to call insurance and give them the correct number.

I'm just glad it was the right bike and the wrong VIN vs. the wrong bike and right VIN.

Always check this stuff yourself.

i bought a toyota tacoma new...had it almost a good 6 months and I got stopped for making a turn that I did not know was illegal. Now while waiting for the summons (i did deserve it, ignorance is no excuse) like 5 police cars were there and i was asked all kinds of questions. My wife and I were then taken from the truck and put in seprate patrol cars! I was freeking out as I had JUST made a left where it said you could not! well they question me about painting the truck and where did i get it(all along they question my wife too)...after like 45 minutes they tell me what the issue is. The dealership filled the registration wrong and said the the truck was white....it is black. Needless to say I was steamed and the dealer got an earfull. They gave me 5 free oil changes and free service to 30k miles...so it kinda worked out
needless to say, i read all my paperworkl completely BEFORE anything moves

Happened to me as well when I bought an S1 in 96.

I did not discover the discrepancy until 2000, when I moved to another state and during the inspection on the registration process, lo and behold... difference in the paperwork VIN and the one on the frame.

Took a long time to straighten out. The solution was getting a new frame from Buell with the correct VIN stamped on it. Some other Buell had the VIN my paperwork had.

Painting your vehicle deserves an arrest??? Sounds like an abuse of power by the police if nothing else...

My XB12SS is still registered as red, last time I got pulled over, the cop asked if I painted it. I said yes I did, and that was the end of that.

My guess there was something else up with that truck that made it suspicious.
