Brought home my 08R Sat, rode up to fill the tank today & the key wouldn't open the fuel cap. Both my keys work the ignition & pillion lock, but won't open the fuel cap. Dealer said it'll be handled thru warranty & said they were ordering the parts & would let me know when they come. Anyone heard of that before?

Its normal for the new caps to be stiff, push down a little on the cap. Spraying a little WD40 on the key first can help too.

I'd be wondering who the other guy was with my gas cap.

Seems like that could happen. Bunch of bikes going out the door, putting a splash of fuel in them and the tech get the caps mixed up????

Could be wrong.

Yep had the same problem when I went to fuel up on way home from dealer, just have to push down and turn key to left. I tried both keys too, pretty common I think. same when you close, push down to save the key,

Spray some wd40 or comparable lube...and work it gently.

Common issue.

Well dang, slap me & call me Susan, a little WD40 and some jiggling & bingo. I'll call dealer in the morning & cancel.

Thanks!!!

Mine did the same thing, sprayed some tri-flow in it, I also took a sharpie and wrote open with an arrow under the flap. And push down a little. You also need to be standing on the correct side of the bike with one foot in the air.

Doctor, LOL. I have noticed it doesn't matter which foot you have in the air, if you have your neck tilted a little towards the West.

On really, really hot summer days on the track bike I've had the gas cap "seize" in the tank and not open. Actually broke a key off trying.

I've since moved to the GSD keyless gas cap for the track bike.

Never had the issue on the street. Of course, never made a habit of running the motor WFO at 230F there, either.
