I had a small scratch on my passenger seat cover and front flyscreen. I used plastic polish and the seat cover came out perfect as expected. The flyscreen turned hazy and gray. Look like the flyscreen may be paint and not molded black? Anyone else mess up their flyscreen? | ||

How does the plastic polish work? Do you get any color transfer to the rag? I have not messed with the flyscreen, but it seems to be the same as the rest. | ||

Crap. I just read manual. You can't polish the colored plastic panels. I was used to polishing my translucid XB but the Novus is not for color. This sucks. | ||

Yes I did get color transfer on the polishing cloth. | ||

I was just curious because I used meguiars cleaner wax on my seat cover and got color transfer. It's a mildly abrasive wax, so I was not surprised. It did reduce the scratches and the shine seems the same. I'm sure it's not the end of the world. | ||

Not end of world but lesson learned. It just has a grayish cast on it now. | ||

I think they are more like $70! I used Novus. Apparently only for clear plastics. | ||

I'm gonna have to buy a new one ... Look how crappy it looks in the picture. The Flash makes it look MUCH worse but you can see the grayish cast over it. Before I read the manual I repolished the entire thing and made it even worse. The good thing is my ASV levers came today and work like a charm!   | ||

I just spent about 10 minutes polishing it with a soft dry towel ... it actually looks quite a bit better now. I did already order a replacement that may end up being a spare. Once I get it in the daylight tomorrow I'll see how well it shined up ... | ||

I used Novus on the plastics on the ex's Blast (colored plastic) and it worked just fine, can't see why the 1125 plastics would be any different??  | ||

I've used Plexus on all the plastics on my 1125R and have had no problem at all. | ||

That doesn't look *too* bad. See what it looks like in the sunlight and make your call. Doesn't hurt to have a spare... you could always do something fun/paint on the old one... ASV levers! I was looking for those! Where did you get them and have parts #'s? Very cool - thanks! | ||

To remove very minor surface blemishes I tried HD scratch remover and am reasonably happy. It doesn't get every single one out, but it does help noticeably, and there are no ill effects. | ||

I've had floor bikes get scratches that way, especially black ones. The HD swirl and scratch remover does a good job. Follow that with Harley Glaze, and a final coat of your favorite car wax (I use Mothers' carnauba). HD has a new aerosol that works well as a final application, too... And don't bother bashing the use of the HD products. I work here, they supply us with the stuff on the floor to keep the bikes looking good, and I've used it with great success. I'm sure there are autoparts equivalents...but I use what I know works. It just helps that I got to experiment with the stuff without being 'out of pocket', lol. The novus, especially on the black Buells, is NOT a final-application product. I've used it to get bootscuffs out of 1125 and 12R passenger cowls...but once the scuffs are gone, I have to finish-polish them as noted above. Surlyn is definitely NOT a "wipe it / polish it / done" material like clearcoated paint. It is *s*o*f*t* stuff and scratches pretty easily. |
