I understand and rules are rules whether we like it or not. I just couldn't believe everyone came down so hard on the poor guy. All he was trying to do is get everybody a deal on some gear that is not going to be made anymore.

None of this is your problem. You are not a Badweb custodian. You are not a sponsor. You are not a non-sponsoring vendor. You are not (by your own admission) looking to purchase something. And you don't have deals that you want to share with the group. You are a sanctimonious busybody. Sorry, but that's the nicest that I can be and still be truthful.

Since 10/15, the # of posts/posters has gone up significantly while the # of custodians has remained the same.

If they need you to be a custodian, I'm sure that they will let you know. Until/unless that happens, I recommend that you consider another Badweb rule that you may have missed:

"If I have a problem with content that is posted to the discussion forum, I will notify a BadWeB custodian; I will not confront either on the board or via private message or other means, the author of the post I find problematic. I will allow the BadWeB custodian(s) to address and respond to the issue."

So how about if we just sit back and let the BadWeb custodians enforce the rules and determine when posts violate those rules?

If I always have a fair price, then nobody thinks they're getting a better deal than someone else (as your comments now make me think that if our sponsors here already give a discount, and there's still room for negotiation, that I'm probably getting screwed). Probably going to keep that in mind every time I order now.

That's not fair. Since 10/15, a LOT of dealers have chosen to blow things out AT or BELOW cost. If you really are a small business owner, you know that path only leads to failure, eventually. What it really means is that whoever is blowing things out has very little intention of ever getting things in again, and that could include parts, accessories AND clothing.

It does NOT mean you're getting screwed by paying a higher price than the blowout prices. I cannot match those prices. I mean, I could, briefly, but my plan is to continue to reinvest in Buell inventory for as long as I can, and if I sell below cost, I don't even have enough to reorder, much less pay my employees and turn on the lights. Hence my assumption that the blowout dealers are about done with Buell.

As I have said numerous times, we are not.

We never claimed to be the cheapest. We never put out the claim that "We Sell Buells Cheap". What we have tried to do (and all we can do is try) is offer reasonable prices on quality merchandise. We don't set the retail of the clothes - those prices are posted on buell.com for the most part - and we do offer a BadWeb discount.

And as part of the normal business, things eventually go on markdown.

I can see everyone's perspective. I'm a consumer in my regular life - I understand the desire to share a "good" deal. And at some point, those things will be gone.

If every dealer has to blow out their inventory at cost or below, WHY on EARTH would anyone want to be a Buell dealer anymore?

Would you continue your small business knowing you would have to sell everything at cost, or risk looking like you're "screwing" people?

P2-
I know you think you are helping the site by trying to be everyone's Jiminy Cricket, but you might just be doing the opposite. This is not the issue, some dealer I've never heard of is selling shirts cheap. Oh well.

What concerns me is when your censorship and sponsor-pandering starts to strangle not only this site but the Buell community as a whole. For example, I tell everybody I know about this site and how helpful it is, yet I can't wear a shirt that says BadWeb cause a vendor doesn't offer one and neither does Blake?
Another example, and I assume it's peripheral to both you and I, is the Woodcraft rearset discussion. This is a product that is not produced currently. A badwebber went above and beyond in asking them to make it (which sounds like your kind of thing..)

When they said they need 20 customers he did the logical thing, and came to a international gathering of Buell owners and lovers to try to get a new product offered to us all.

Can't do that. Stepping on vendors. Well correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't it the vendor's job to set this stuff up and tell us? Not the other way around? I've bought stuff from American Sport Bike, it was a great experience and I plan on doing it again soon for the new bike. If Al is interested in selling woodcraft rearsets he can set that up.

This is American business, not the elementary school playground. You don't have to run around giving timeouts and making sure everybody gets their turn on the swing.

@chelleM - You and I are saying the same thing. P_squared's idea was that we should all go out and find the best deal, then go back to the sponsors and ask them to match it. If you're already spending money to be here, and then you're giving a discount, and then everyone under the sun is asking you to match the lowest price - you're NOT GOING TO BE IN BUSINESS.

I suppose my saracasm was a bit thick for the typed word - but I believe the sponsors here always have fair prices, and I will go to them and pay their fair prices when I am going to purchase something. I appreciate what they do for this forum, but as you said, the blowout merchandise will be quickly gone and business will remain as usual.

I apologize if I seemed like I was accusing anyone of price gouging, I was merely remarking that consistently asking vendors to reduce their prices for you, and P_squared making it seem like this was the common practice around here, gave me concern for who he was looking after in the first place.

and just FYI, I would gladly pay $24 a year to have nice features like the ignore button that other forums have!

PS - @chelleM - I've been to Liberty - and bought several shirts and sunglasses from you - full price even! You're right around the corner from my Mom!

Chellem,

There are dealers who are blowing out their limited supply of Buell inventory and, in a few months, they will be out of the market. Closeout sales, due to buyouts, bankruptcy, store closings, last-year's-model, overstocks, and lost leases have happened in retail for decades. This is not something new, nor are the dealers doing it slimy or underhanded.

If no dealers stopped carrying Buell apparel, parts, and accessories, it would get really ugly out there for dealers like yours in a few years as the number of Buells on the road decreased -- as did purchases of accessories (something done much more often when a bike is new), clothing, and parts.

So, figure you'll lose a few sales due to inventory closeouts like the one that started this thread and, in a couple of months, the Buell customers who did rely on those dealers will start relying on you and the other remaining Buell supporting dealers.

Speedy, minor correction. I ASKED folks to give the sponsors a chance at their business. Didn't say you HAD to.

I can understand wanting good deals, believe me, but could we all @ least TRY to steer our 1st contact for potential business to the folks who help pay 2 keep the lights on here?

At least check with them to see if they can meet or beat the price(s) from non-sponsors?

Please?

Since then, I've given suggestions on how to go about it here in a manner that doesn't break the rules or step on folk's toes.

I see I likely started the kerfluffle w/ Fmaxwell by how I wrote my response to him originally. I could have & should have done a better job in how I worded that response.

But hey, if it makes you feel better to justify your behavior in such a manner that you feel no personal responsibility, so be it.

Mr. Maxwell, my sincere apologies for saying that in public. It was not needed or necessary.

As for the rest of this thread, leaving the headbutting behind us for a moment between the personalities, there are ways to achieve what folks are asking for.

Linking to non-sponsor offering same product(s) as sponsors = not good.

Discussing info = no problem.

Any questions = ask before posting.

Seems to have worked so far.

Now can we all go ride?

This is not something new, nor are the dealers doing it slimy or underhanded.

I never said they were being slimy or underhanded, or anything other than business people, although I reserve the right to somewhat disagree with some folks's business plans.

What I didn't like was the assumption that if we're NOT blowing things out that we must be screwing people somehow. *I* don't want to be thought of as the "slimy" one for NOT selling at or below cost.

I see I must have misunderstood what was said, and I'm sorry about that.

But I'm not sorry that I'm trying to earn a little profit. That is why people are in business, right?

Michael (Rkc00),

What are you wanting to advertise or promote here? We don't offer blind sponsorships; you have to be a valid, reputable, an honorable business venture.

I don't appreciate your tone. Sponsorship is not bullshit. It is what funds the ongoing operation and maintenance of the site.

Chellem, you wrote "I never said they were being slimy or underhanded, or anything other than business people"

You're right and I apologize for my message making it sound like you had said that.

That part of my message was really directed at others who are insinuating that any business that elects to stop carrying Buell-related is somehow reprehensible or beneath contempt. As you recognize, it's just business. While I may buy some closeout items that I really don't need (and would never have bought had they not gone on closeout), it's dealers like yours that I will continue to rely on for hard parts and accessories long after the closeout sales are over.

As for the part of ASKING the sponsors here on what deals they have, asking in 1 thread in the 1125R board is pitiful IMO as “justification” to say you have. At least have the decency to ask it in a new thread on the Quickboard, where the majority of them might actually SEE it & respond to it. That is if it’s too difficult to contact them all individually via their email/phone/own section of BWB.

Yeah, that worked well. No responses - exactly what I expected. -- KeS
