Anyone else getting the run around from HP HD/B?

I signed the papers last Wednesday for a cash sale, no trades, no financing.

Is it true that the owner of the dealership has to sign off on any deals that include the "rebate/discount"

I just got off the phone with my salesman and he told me the owner still hasn't signed off on the deal. Last week the delay was that they had to wait for the paperwork from HD for the rebate/discount.

HP has my insurance paperwork, my deposit and my Buell. I have the balance of the cash ready to go.

I'm starting to wonder if they really want to sell me a Buell....

I didn't even want to post that I was getting one until I got it so I hope they get what they need soon. I am about to explode.

Are they locating a bike for you, or is it in stock?

It's there, I test rode it. Just the dealership owner apparently doesn't know how to authorize his salesmen to do their jobs....

I "thought" that they were a good dealership as they have had the demo truck there on more than one occasion.

I will double check the VIN to make sure it matches the paperwork I have.

It's been posted that the dealerships have to sign up to provide 7 years of support for Buell service/parts in order to get the big rebates. Maybe he can't make up his mind about that.

I specifically ask the sales guy that question before buying.

If he answered no, I was walking out.

You guys need to contact HD Customer Service -- NOW!!!

Something is fishy. The dealer could be looking for better offers and be planning to refund your deposit if they find a better offer.

I would send a registered letter to the dealer telling them that you need to schedule a time to pick up your Buell 1125R or CR with VIN xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx per the paperwork you completed on October xx, 2009.

I have signed paperwork for the deal. They can't back out of it, just like I can't back out of the the deal I signed with them.

Edited to add: Unless they fail to deliver a Buell to me for the prescribed price within a reasonable amount of time. If they can't deliver, which I'm not doubting that they can deliver. I'm just curious how long they have to deliver until the deal can legally be terminated - by me. I'm thinking (with no legal knowledge whatsoever) 7 days. Any other new car/truck I've bought, I've taken it with me same day or next day to allow for delivery prep work. But since I've already ridden this bike, there should be no prep work delay.

As much as I'd like to have a new 1125, I don't need it, I already have an XB that I enjoy the daylights out of.

Eww. I hadn't heard that. Interesting--but it does make sense from HD point of view.

Just got off the phone with the GM of the dealership. She said that the contract to provide service/parts just came in from HD (why it took 6 business days to come in is beyond me) and that the owner has been off sick with the flu for the last 3-4 days.

She said she will call me back today. I told her if she doesn't, that I will be up tomorrow to get my money back.

I was told the bike was in stock and said I would take it. They ran my financing and said it was good. THey then said they would call me next week(I made this deal over the phone on Monday 10/19)and let me know when i could come pick it up. I asked if I could come on Saturday so it woulden't get in the way of work and they said they needed to get some paperwork done for Harley and their computers were being upgraded.
I too thought this was weird but had herd others were in the same boat so it was ok. Now I am starting to worry again.

Just off the Mark from HP HD/Buell.

He said they have been waiting for a rebate form from HD. They just received it today. They have faxed it to the owner and are waiting on him to sign. As soon as he has it back from the owner so he can submit it to HD to get their rebate, they will be calling us.

If anyone knows any of this to be false please let us know.

Thanks

I've never heard of a dealership being so cautious when it comes to paperwork. Do they think HD is going to stiff them?

I guess my main question is this; what relevance does signing on to do the 7 years of parts/service have to do with selling a bike on the floor?

Are the dealers not allowed to sell existing inventory if they don't sign on?

They don't get the $5k from HD if they don't sign.

Call around and get a bike from another dealer. I know they are going fast but im sure there are others near by. Anything around 7k-7.5k out the door seems to be the norm now.

Got another phone call from the GM of the dealership stating that she has an email in to a HD regional manager about releasing the bikes before the rebate/discount paperwork has been filed back with HD. She's afraid that HD won't honor the rebate/discount and that the dealership would have to eat the difference if they sell the bike without HD having the paperwork in hand.

According to the GM, being able to offer the rebate/discount has nothing to do with signing on as a 7 year servicing/parts dealer.

Do you think she has the govt's "cash for clunkers" debacle in the back of her mind?
(which shouldn't apply here as this is an internal HD thing and nothing to do the the govt. apart from the tax write off of closing a company)

danxb9r, my price was $1k less than you mentioned, so I'm going to make them honor the agreement.

If your paperwork does not say that the sale is contingent on HD providing a rebate, then that's an issue between the dealer and Harley. It should not delay or inhibit your ability to get the bike that you have legally contracted to buy (they made an offer, you accepted, and the contract is made).

This looks suspiciously like the dealer is reporting the bike sold to HD (using the signed paperwork) in order to get the rebate before the sale actually has taken place.

Call HD/Buell customer service. Seriously.

Xb, I can wait. I'll need to wait for you. I'm leaving at 1:30 a.m. to take dad to the airport in Pgh, so when I get back I'll be sleeping for a little before going to HP HD/B.

Rde, the GM said that she got a call from "a guy in NY" (who I knew was you) expressing the same concerns as I. Tag teams work

For what it's worth, I walked into Vallejo Harley and Buell with no prearrangements at 2:30pm, struck a deal with Dustin by around 4, came back with a cashier's check at 4:30, and after about an hour of suspension setup, recall checks, and detailing I left with my bike a bit after 6pm.

Total time from start of deal to closing? Less than 4 hours.

So what you're talking about sounds very strange to me.

I bet they were getting worried that we were going to start looking elsewhere. It has been a long week and a half but now that i got the call and my VIN I think I can go post in the "If you picked one up board".

I am not going to sleep well tonight and work is going to drag. I plan to head out about 1 putting me down there about 5pm.

I've got to be back in my hometown around 6 tomorrow, so I won't be able to meet you Rde. It's about 90-100 miles each way, and they were the closest dealer who had a red '09R and CR. I wanted to test ride them back to back to see the difference in air flow on my body. I liked the R better.

Rde if you were getting the CR, (had around 80 miles on it when I did the test ride)I only wound it out "a little" on the test ride ; )
