Like the 5000 other new owners to join up this last week...
The dealer is offering an extended warranty for 3 years after the factory expires ~$1k.
Never had any problems with the Firebolt other than the exhaust valve cabling (fixed under warranty the first week) and was looking for opinions on buying the extended warranty from those that have had an 1125 for a while.
Thanks.

Understand that like any insurance, this is designed to make money for the dealer. On average, the cost of repairs will be lower than the cost of the extended warranty. That's how they work.

Of course, if you're unlucky rather than average, it can pay out.

Do remember this plan only covers defects in manufacturing. It will not cover wear and tear or accidental damage.

Important questions to ask yourself:
1) Do you think you'll own the bike for more than a few years? You already have a 2 year warranty.
2) Will you be able to keep the shiny side up for that long? If the bike has been damaged, it can sometimes be hard to get warranty work done.

I was just faced with the same decision. In the end, I put the money in my savings account to pay for repairs.

I did it on my Bolt and am doing it on my 1125r. Be sure you get the tire and wheel coverage with it. I got more out of the plan than I invested into it. It does depend on how much you use your bike though. If you only put 5k a year on a bike, you might not make back your money. I averaged over 15k a year over the 5 years I had it on my bolt. I am sure it will be the same on the R.

They want $1000 for a 3 year extended warranty, yes? The clutch repair with the cover, internals and the outside puck (just the parts) come up to around that much alone. Throw in the hour or 2 for labor, yeah, there went a grand. 2nd year into the part where you don't have a warranty and hmm, there it went again. Whoops, there's ANOTHER grand for the same thing. I've only had mine done 3 times so far, but for the $1k, I'd say it's worth it. Who's the dealer or is this available thru H-D?

@D_adams - I don't think the clutch is covered, unless it's a mechanical problem due to manufacturing defect.

I sprung for the 7 year warranty with the wheel and tire for $2000. I figured with a bike that has been out for two years, and now is scrapped, I better cover my ass. Besides, I got it for 50% of MSRP.

I never fall for the extended warranty but thats just me. I use to work for a car dealer and its amazing what the manufactures will tell you not to get it covered under warranty. There in the business to make money not loose it. I have had 4 firebolts over the years and all of them been solid as rock! Funny thing is the salesman was telling me I would be sorry for not buying one has the firebolts were always in the shop. The whole time I'm thinking he used these tatics to sell bikes... god help them!

ive never bought an extended warranty for any vehicle but because the 1125s are such a special circumstance and i got such a good deal on the bike, i decided to do it.

i figure, if something goes wrong with the bike, replacement parts are only going to get more and more expensive. plus the warranty is transferable, itll make the bike easier to sell if the buyer is scared due to the bike's rarity.

not that im planning on selling the bike, i mean.

Tire and wheel was $300 - which is less than two tires over the course of 7 years. Again - it's an unproven motor in a bike that is no longer manufactured, with a warranty that is transferable, refundable, and only carries a $50 deductible. If the motor eats itself - I'd like a new motor for $50 please in year 3. I'd like to get 7 years out of this bike at least - as it will never be made again, sniff.

I have never bought an extended warranty in my life. I am philosophically opposed to them. But I did it for my R and am glad I did.

My bike has been in the shop about 6 times or more --- mostly for the clutch, but also for the rear master cylinder, the cluster, and a couple other more minor problems. A week or more each time.

I have ridden away on a free rental every single time. The warranty paid for itself several times over.

Get the tire & wheel as well.

Most guys get really careless around construction sites when their tires are worn.

You guys are really starting to scare me as I thought these 1125r's and Cr's where pretty good bikes now, but neededing a new 1000 dollar clutch 3 times? that's bs. I've been waiting alot of years to get back on a Buell and hope I did not make a mistake as I just love the CR. so far 229 trouble free hard miles. I don't mind tighting stuff up here and there once and awhile but these bikes should be free of big problems. Guess only time will tell. you can by the extended warranty anytime as long as it's before the 2 yr one is up so I will wait and see how much grief I have in those two years before I decide.

The repair (replace piston and sleeve) was under warranty anyway. Also, at that time, the new upgraded part (stainless steel sleeve, instead of the original aluminum) was still in development and not yet available. Finally, my bike had about the worst problems with the clutch of any I've heard.

What the extended warranty bought me was a free rental with every service. $85 per day otherwise; you do the math.

I don't believe that is correct. The flyer I was given says that you need to get it within 90 days and 2000 miles, or an "additional surcharge" will apply.

Well my dealer told me same price no matter when I get as long as my 2 yr one was not up. so I will stop back and and see him tomorrow and ask again. I also don't need a bike rental as I have two other bikes so that is no bigge for me

Sometimes you can get them to throw in the tire and wheel coverage

I think it is worth buying. I've already received 1 "free" rear Pirelli, no questions asked. Full retail that is about a $300 value or so. Three more tires I break even and I'm still covered for a total of 5 years. If all I get is tires and never need the warranty no big deal.

Extended warranties are for suckers--not just for motorcycles but for any product. Only get the extended warranty if you can't afford to get it fixed on your dime after two years. Other than that it's a waste of money. IMO of course.

Fresno, I hear you, and agree, but at the same time I started buying them for appliances the last 2 items I bought, and they both paid off. I've had repair guys out 3x and 5 x for a dishwasher and stove, both past the initial warranty period. Easily covering the cost and then some. Supposedly both were top rated items according to Consumers Reports.
For the bike I might do it for an '08 model and would at least think about it for the '09's although most of the bugs seem to be fixed, or at least I haven't seen too many posts. Probably at the original price I would have thought more about spending, but with the discounts, it makes it easier to go with the extra cost up front.

Any update on this? I'm rapidly coming up on the 2K miles it says I need to purchase under. Also, anyone get any deals on this, preferably from site sponsors? My local dealer wants full freight and says Harley won't allow discounting, which I doubt.
