Hey everyone,

Picked up a new 1125CR last thursday. Its got a October 08 build date. Five miles into my ride home, the clutch lever became effortless to pull in the first 70% of the travel and the last 30% felt normal. At the same time, shifting gears became hard to do, clunky and acted like the clutch wasn't disengaging. Also, the clutch's friction window was very sensitive when moving forward from a stop. It felt like the clutch was either engaged or disengaged without any friction window. After the bike cools down, none of the previous described problems exist. The bike has been in the shop since Friday evening and the latest update from today is that that still don't know whats going on.

Any of you experienced something similar?

Chris

Bleed your clutch.

I wish it was that easy. No air in the hydraulic circuit was found.

Get it to a dealer ASAP. Mine failed on the backroads and took 2.5 months to repair

The early models had a leaking issue at the clutch cover.
The fix is p/n X2086.1AM and is a new piston/cylinder kit.

When you say there was no air in the system, I assume you also checked and had a proper level of fluid in the reservoir.

Be aware, the hydraulic clutch has a MUCH smaller friction zone than a cable clutch.
It takes some getting used to but I don't even think about it now(after 22k miles).

I agree with the friction zone, but that's not necessarily because it's hydraulic. I have other bikes with hydraulic clutch setups that feel quite different. (ZX-14, Moto Guzzi)

So do 09 bikes come with the new clutch set up? I was told by my dealer it was a new and improved clutch for 09?

Hey same thing happened to me tonight....no signs of fluid leak, almost feels like fluid fade. (no diff once it has cooled off) It was ok when I left the house, only a short ride about 22 miles. Symptoms exactly as you describe. If I listen closely, I can hear some 'motion' even during the 'light' portion of the lever travel. Almost seems like something loosened up and resulted in a bunch of freeplay. I'd be curious as to what you learn since my dealer is 130miles away.

My bike is still in the shop. The dealer informed me Friday afternoon this:

1. The master\slave hydraulic circuit is fine.
2. They can't located the problem after riding the bike and removing the side cover to visually inspect the clutch assembly.
3. According to the dealer, Buell tech support is dragging there feet on what to do.

I'll make a call to Buell tomorrow morning to find out whats going on.

I bled mine tonight, no discernible difference. I did notice that the 70% loose/effortless became like 20% if I let the engine idle. Weird. Shut the engine off and it is back to 70% loose. The secondary piston moves even during the 70% loose condition.
SOrry I wound up throwing another thread up since this went into the archives. I'll prolly get in trouble....

The problem was found. The vacuum hose up near where it attaches to a tee fitting near the intake was kinked. Clutch operation is now back to normal.
