i have owned an xb9s for over 2 years now, so im not new to to the harley experience but what happened today had me scratching my head.

it's time for the 600 mile service on my CR and so i went to the local harley dealership today. i'd just bought some oil change accoutrements from their parts counter and decided to give the service counter a visit. i wanted to know how much the oil change service was if i decided to be lazy about it. i walked up to the service counter and the person behind the counter was a burley dude with a big 70s moustache. he was talking to some customers about primary belts for their big twin. he stopped the conversation with them for a sec to ask me the usual, 'can i help you with anything?'

i asked how much an oil change for an 1125r would be (i decided to just say 'r' to keep things simple). he replied with, 'no sorry we don't work on those here.'

my girlfriend was with me and she thought that maybe by adding the fact and telling him that it is a 'CR' and not an 'R' that maybe that would make the difference. the service guys then asks in a very serious but inquisitive tone, 'who makes that bike, kawasaki?'

my GF went on to try to explain that it's a buell (which BTW they still have a few of upstairs in their showroom). but at this time, id already decided that even if the oil change was only $5, i wouldnt want to have it done here.

btw, at the end he said that the oil change for an 1125r would be $400.

and no, this isnt the dealership that i bought my CR from.

I think this is the sign of the dealers that will be out of the Buell business as soon as the last bike drives out the parking lot. Good riddance.

I think that anyone who owns a Buell and can't turn a screw or two had better sell them asap.

While I'm new to the Buell world, I bought it expecting zero dealer support. I figure I can do routine maintenance and for the things I can't do, I'll have my friend who owns an independent shop do the work.

Get to know your independents, they'll be far more help then the dealerships (I'm sure there will be a few who will be of help, but I'm not expecting much in CO).

+1 Salsashark. I do the basic checks and change the oil and air filter. I got an independent doing everything else. For warranty work I will use the dealer.

Salsa - have you been up to see us?
I can't predict the future, but we are still very pro-Buell with promises to stay that way a long time.

Hey Zack, I take it you're "Zack with the drummer"? A few of the guys there said I need to hear your bike before I ordered a new exhaust for my CR (they are crediting the warranty cost towards aftermarket). Both times I was there, you weren't though so I just went ahead and ordered a jardine.

I can 2nd that high country has been great to work with.

Your looking in the wrong place!

Not only is HCHD into Buells as long as they can be, there is a great group of Colorado Buell Riders on this site. Some of them even ride those fancy, high speed, low drag water cooler bikes.

I've been out sick for a week+.
My "work week" is Sat-Wed.

I should be back at work this Saturday(Halloween).
I'll be wearing a suit as my costume....

Wow but I can believe it I called my HD shop {the one who sponsored me} trying to get tires for my Buell {seeing as how it's no longer going to be a race bike" and the parts lady was arguing with me that the buell had a 19'' front rim! then told me to just buy my tires from someone else! HD SUCKS

Remember these are independently-owned dealerships and Harley can always claim they don't own or control the owners's actions. H-D may talk good game about supporting the brand, we will see. I definitely have my doubts.
