these low prices are really annoying me,I bought my new 09 1125R in Nov 08 and paid £8500 sterling, and to see the bikes being heavily discounted both in the uk and the usa is the last straw.
Since I intend to keep the bike until either I am too old or it terminally expires the resale value is not too much of an issue but if I had to sell..............

" ..This sh^% makes me sick. My MSRP when I bought mine last year was $11K. Maybe I should've waited. .. "

For an enthusiast and fan blog, doesn't this type of attitude appear hypocritical, or counter to expected goals here?

It is this attitude that made some dealers sick on Buell, unable to make enough money to sustain a credible business.

If more people waited until Buell was going out of business from lack of sufficient sales to make it a profitable venture, a business that included use of an existing distribution network, finance wing and dealer network with sales, service & parts,(albeit proven to be wrought with some less than beneficial participants) - waiting to buy a new Buell would have only brought the devil knocking sooner. Buell, RMR and Eslick might never have historically won the AMA American Sportbike National Championship, the Loki platform left to archives as an unproven race platform.

You should buy a vehicle; car, motorcycle, jetski, not as an investment but for the ride. A sale happens when buyer & seller meet at a mutually beneficial price. Don't look back at what you pay unless you are a budding dealership and need to improve margins to become profitable.

Just put a deposit down on one at my dealer. '08 1125R. It was their demo bike and has 300 miles on it. $5128 OTD. He has one yet to be uncrated at $5873 OTD.

With tax etc. I bought my '08 for about 15,000. It's disappointing, but I'm very happy with the bike.

Think about this, we own a bike that is literally one of a kind. It was brand new to the market and only produced for a couple of years. While I don't like that Buell is being discontinued, I feel a little unique having a bike that hardly anyone else has or has access to.

where are you guys finding the sub $6k Out the Door priced bikes? Calling the dealers around here many have them at 6999 (list minus the 5k rebate) but none cheaper. I'm willing to travel to save a few thousand, since after taxes and other fee's the $6999 price comes to nearly $8200 out the door.

I just filled out the paperwork today on my deposit. I'm paying $6400 otd for a 09 one. My dad also gets a discount because he's an employee with HD, so it'll amount to being around $5800 otd for it : D.

I had a chance to ride an '08 this morning and was very impressed. However, the dealer claimed ignorance of the $5000 rebate and originally wanted $8k for the demo. His lowest offer was $6900, take it or leave it after verifying the rebate. What a deal! (no, I didn't buy).

Anyone else running into dealers who think full retail as far as they are concerned (sell price + rebate) is still "normal"?

I called around looking for a CR in the NJ area.
9 dealers had none.
1 dealer had 2 and wanted $6k.
1 dealer had 6 and wanted $6500.

The dealer that had 6 said they were holding the price. He told me straight up that they wanted to be the last ones in the area with them so they could make the money on them. Made sense to me.

Local has a red 09 R for 6999
I just picked up an 08 25th aniversary for 6500 from another.

I'd say both are good deals seeing as a year ago they were 11+

Yes 5000 would be great but I'm happy with what I got and consider it a once in a lifetime.

I'm also sad at the circumstances that got me one.
I would gladly give it back to see the dream live on.

It's called the law of Supply & Demand. As the dealers that are bailing on Buell as we go forward sell out at a loss, (or perhaps never really supported Buell anyway) the dealers that want to remain to service their good customers will stil be selling bikes at a reasonable price.

What is reasonable?

Let's start with unreasonable:
Cost - Buell incentive = unreasonable.

Why?

If the bike sat on the dealer floor plan for 8 months, there are 8 months of floor plan expenses, shipping and set up costs all incurred. This sale is at a loss and the dealer is sending a signal he is not going to support Buell going forward IMHO.

Does every business not deserve to make a reasonable profit for providing its service?

A good profit on a Buell right now would be:
MSRP - incentive + freight.

From what I read, most bikes aare going for closer to the former than the latter only further influencing business decisions of good Buell dealers around the country.

I love the posted threads here asking things like:
New bike break in?
Service for 1125?
checking oil?

I guess when you buy a bike causing the dealer to loose money, they must not be too forth coming in bike delivery walk-thru topics such as service interavals, break-in procedures, operation of the bike, pre-ride check list, warranty, and a host of other normally covered topics.

You often get what you pay for in life.

I think most people will turn to a forum to find out how to check the oil and break in the bike to save $2000.

Just a fact of the times. Economy is bad.

Dealers that will continue to support will invariably be asked to service bikes they didn't sell because their price was high. They will eventually piss of customers looking for warranty work/service/parts on the premise that the bike wasn't purchased there. It will turn off customers to that particular dealer and the brand in general. It is a very "HD" attitude and I have personally experienced it already with the 08 1125R I currently own.

90% of us know more than the person that is walking up thru the inspection stuff. Reading the owners manual will give you a better understanding than any delivery speech.

i'm one of those new 25R riders - and I kind of snatched a "break-in?" thread.

I know the OEM rec'd break in - but i also trust this community to steer me right.

I also know how to check the oil, and barring any major issues I'm very happy with my local dealership to do service.

Money gets tight i may start doing it myself, but we'll see.

I hate being the newbie on here and immediately disagreeing with someone, but on this one I have to give the other side.

I would argue the dealers expecting to get what amounts to full retail is unreasonable (sale price = MSRP - 5000 + fees). Why? Buell is a DEAD company and all the 1125R on the floor are now a model year old. 2008s are now two model years old.

Regardless of what H-D may say, their brand support going forward will certainly only go down from here. Need an obscure part in 2015 for your 1125r? Good luck on H-D ordering another batch of spare parts regardless of their mandated seven-year support timeframe. "Backordered" will be a common status until time runs out, IMO.

If Buell were still chugging along making bikes, off-season deals would be everywhere for $9-10k, maybe lower. Just like last year and just like September. Before Black Thursday, there were many dealers in this price range or lower, now the ubiquitous $6999 for 2009 models. Or in other words, FULL retail for the dealership where a week ago they would have gladly accepted thousands less. Someone needs to explain to me how these orphans are worth more today than they were a week ago.

Resale values were also cut significantly that same day. When dealers can sell new bikes for $5k, what is a used one worth, $3k? As bad as it is for that buyer who paid MSRP for their bike, this is the reality. But that is not the fault of current buyers or even the dealers. Blame Harley for killing the brand then giving the dealers and incentive to dump them.

I'll sell my '08 R with a "low" 2,250 miles, a Jardine muffler, American Sport Bike seat pins, Rizoma grips, Rizoma barend sliders and a new rear Pirelli for $1,000,000. All I need is one...

Pricing is definitely supply and demand. Living in NEPA, cruisers definitely rule the roost. While there are a fair amount of sportbikes, their numbers pale in comparison. All three of my local dealers have always been friendly and forthcoming with information when it came to parts, service, and sales. I've never had warranty work done, so I can't comment. But, the point is that my local dealers had some better prices than many other areas. Why? Simple. Cost of living is much cheaper in my part of PA than neighboring NJ, NY, etc. Riding season is shorter than southern/western states. Not much of a Buell market.

Would I prefer to support a known Buell dealer who will look out for me if I need warranty work? Sure. But honestly, I cannot afford to pay a several thousand dollar premium because I want to be buddies with my dealer.

For $4500, I'll take my chances...

spoke to 4 people today that were quoted 4600 on the same two bikes at the same dealer. Bet that he will be P.O'd when he figures out that he had 4 people chomping at the bit to buy the same two bikes and he could have tried a little harder to sell without a loss rather than take it in the rear so bad. He decided to short sell the awesome power of the 1125R. Oh well, guess my used one with side fairings and spare wheels is only worth 2500 bucks now. I'll keep it and ride both sets of wheels off it ; )
