Picked up and rode my 1125CR this morning. I got to thinking "what should I change first?" I'm sure I'm not the only one. (I've never had a bike stock for more than a week or two.) I poked around in the forum, but never found a good list.

The pipe, I know, has to go - not a big fan of the "lawnmower sound." That's been the first change on every bike I've had - HD and metric.

The only thing I changed on my 1125R was the number of miles on the odometer... and I change that as often as I can.

The Solenoid. Then a K&N. Then a tune. Then exhaust.

In increasing order of cost...

I would install the exhaust prior to the the tune for sure.

The only thing you will need to change is your undies after you crack that throttle wide open after break in.

De-noid, K&N, (Exhaust/Tune)

Tune is much more important than an exhaust.

Yeah you are right, but if you tune with the stock pipe then add a straight thru pipe all your tuning is out the window.

Do any of the "more-manly" sounding pipes (not loud, just better sounding) affect HP much for the better?

The GAY pipe is the best OEM pipe I have ever seen. Sucks they had to make it sound GAY.

Anyway, first thing I did was put my GPS on. I left the noid connected, I didn't retune it, I ain't done anything that couldn't be removed in 30 seconds. The bike is that awesome bone stock.

If YOU can't TUNE with a stock pipe...

Your only going to whine here or elsewhere.

Please don't post BS. It's already old.

Post what YOU KNOW AS FACT RELEVANT.

...And YES,

certain downloads have been downloaded two years ago.

You can get them, RELEVANT to tuning.

No, it's not the same...just in case others are ready to swoop in.

Bottom line, read my original post in response.

The rest is well...nuff said.

Froggy,

Sorry, missed your post...

Tuning swap/flashes of current are about 30 seconds.

Just an FYI.

Yep I am aware of that, I've tweaked my XB sitting on the side of the Dragon, but my point was I can make it the exact same as the day I picked it up in seconds. (Minus the rock filled customized right side radiator pod) : )

If you picked up an '08 make sure you get the 05Z flash. I got a complimentary 620 mile service with my bike, so when I had it in I had them check my flash just in case, and sure enough I needed the new flash(I was at 03Z). It's like a totally new bike, I drive in a lot of stop and go traffic(los angeles) and the bucking ride around 3k rpm was killing me. It's pretty much nonexistant now and my fuel mileage seems much improved(my running average the first 620 miles was 31 mpg, my last tank was 40 but I was really killing the beast and think I cna easily hit 45)

Would anyone advise us new owners to wait until break in is complete to denoid and switch to the K&N?

The last thing I would change is the pipe. The stock pipe makes a lot of horsepower, gives a great linear torque curve, and is quiet (that's a *very* good thing).

I want a bike that works well, not one which screams "Look at me! I have a motorcycle! Quick, wake up the kids (at 2AM) because some guy with a motorcycle is riding by!"

The Buell is too well engineered to just slap on some one-size-fits-all-if-we-weld-on-different-brackets canister. Chances are that it will have a less linear torque curve and will make less power.

Spend your money on things that make the bike work better or make it more comfortable. Yank the solenoid. Consider flashing a better map. Change the seat and pegs if you're not comfortable.

To me the gayest sounding bikes are loud, flamboyant ones.

Get the pipe, the stock exhaust is well, very lawnmower like as you said.

As far as power loss??? Yeah all of 1.5 hp at POINTS between 4500 and 6500. Peak hp and overall torque is the same.

You get:

1) a better looking muffler
2) a loss of 15 lbs
3) a bike that sounds like a motorcycle

The pureist will tell you the boat anchor is heavenly but you make the call, its your bike.

As others have said, remove the noid, 15 minutes and $7.00.

will all slip on exhausts required a new flash or retune? im more interested in a little sound than losing a pony or two.

Any time you change exhaust or intake you ideally need to change the tune. Many people have proven that you can just do the slip on and nothing else, but tuning will make it run better and not be as lean.
