I don't have a garage or shed to put my bike in, nor do I have $280 to pay a dealer to store my bike during the winter so the past 2 years I have kept it outside covered. Is this a bad idea? Is it bad for the bike?
So far, both years I've taken the bike out and it ran/looked the same as when I put it to rest before the winter.
( Also of note is that I keep the battery tendered in my basement.)

A friend of mine keeps his Yamaha outside year-round (in Boston) and it looks like new somehow. Keep it waxed and oiled etc. and sealed up.

+1 to Whynot. I kept my bikes outside for YEARS until I moved into my new place. The only thing I'd do is spray down the exhaust (ESPECIALLY that *&^%# muffler) with WD-40 to try and prevent rust.

It'll probably rust anyway, but at least you'll have done SOMETHING to try and prevent it. Unless, of course, you've gone to the aftermarket...

WD fer sure! I spray the insides of the mufflers on my various bikes when storing (unheated garage).

How about fogging the motor?

Best part about WD-40 is the aroma you get the first time you fire up the bike in the Spring...

Move something around inside your pad...and park her there with a tender and fuel stabilizer loaded.

Safer all around, not to mention better furnishings!

I wouldn't leave a tractor outside in whats coming in the north this winter!

NY? Nothing is impossible...get her indoors.

Bring it to Georgia where I will keep it safe and warm in my garage . I promise to exercise it regularly and service all fluids and have it ready for spring with just a few more miles on it with pics of all the great places it has been .

I really hate those two weeks in February when it gets too cold to ride .

The Headless Horseman run is in about a week and a half, you shouldn't be even thinking about winterizing till after! And get your ass downstate a bit and enjoy one last good ride for the year. Don't give me the distance excuse, XL1200R and Doon from Albany are coming, and some guys from MA/NH too. : )
