There is in fact a new flash, ends in 141 for the 09 CR, don't know what the # is for the R.

Just from my ride from the dealer to work,it seems smoother. Especially in the low end. I'll keep an eye on MPG, etc, and post up with any further observations.

Any body else have some more feedback after having it for a while?

FWIW, my dealer rocks. (Corpus Christi Harley Buell)

There was a noise I started hearing, sounded like a valve clatter, or a loose pulley slapping around. Just off idle, when you're pulling away in 1st gear. I was thinking about the posts on the loose stators. They pulled everything down, didn't find anything, even rotated the motor and checked the valve lash, cams, etc. All in spec. Really went the extra mile to see if they could find what was making the noise.

No findee nothing. The upshot is that whatever it is is either in my head, or I never noticed it before, or it's normal. True that it's kinda iffy delineating any specific noise over the Drummer. <giggle> Got about another year on the warranty, so no worries.

They installed the new flash, and so far so good!

Now all I need is the wife to get back in town with the laptop so I can plug in the <ahem> aftermarket tuning option.

Either that, or I can get a 50 ft USB cable and use the box in the living room....

Hmmmmmm....

i got the weird chatter sound as well after the first service.. weird!

Could it be a different oil brand changing the sound of teh engine? My dealer cant find anything wrong with mine either but i still do have that sound but didnt before the oil change.

I've got 300 or 400 miles since the second service... I didn't notice it right then, just a day before I took it in. I wonder if it's something in the cush drive? That's just rubber, right? No springs?

Yeah - is this the flash that came out in like May-Juneish? Or is this something new?

First I heard if it was like 2 weeks ago or less. This is different from the Mayish-Juneish one.

BTW, IF you are planning to use an <ahem> aftermarket tuning program <ahem>, LEAVE the last flash in place. Do not pull the trigger on the new one. Apparently they are not compatible, but there is a version of the <ahem> tuning program that is in the works for the new flash.

Just found that out. Glad I checked with the man before stepping on my d!ck with golf shoes...

Now I haven't had my bike reflashed yet. I'm taking it in for the first service this month and I'm going to ask for the latest flash. Is there a way we can tell they actually did it, or could the dealer just bullsh*t me and say they did it?

If you go into diag mode I think the bike tells you which software version it's running.

Ridegreen2oo - Just ask for the printout, after the dealer does the flash. It should have the flash revision listed.

No, not at all! There is one for the R, just I don't know the #.....

The only way to get it really wired is to have your dealer plug it in to their nifty little gizmo and let it do it's thing.

Boy do I have funny story to tell y'all one of these days once I get all my $hit back in one sock....

Only if they didn't put enough of the new brand in the motor (which is always a possibility with the combo of unfamiliar harley tech and lousy oil check procedure.)

I also got the different engine sound after first service and the new flash. My dealer (Sweden) says that Buell is delivered whit mineral oil and after the first service they put in synthetic oil ? True ?

I too had a strange sound that I could not pinpoint after getting a gasket replaced on the ride side of the motor.

It almost sounds like two peaces of plastic slapping together or something rubbing. It doesn't happen all the time though.

Yes I got this flash on my 09' CR about 3 weeks ago while the bike was in the shop for some self inflicted body work. I asked them to check for any new flashes and they found the 141 and installed it. I thought mine had the 12 flash in it but it was one older, the 10 and now with the new flash it is smoother and seems to run cooler.

Well, to make a long story short, I did in fact stomp on my d!ck with golf shoes. I can now confirm that the <ahem> tuning software <ahem> and the new flash are not compatible. Fortunately, there will be a version for the 141 eventually, and I can un F#@k the F#@kup by getting my bike re-reflashed.

This was one of those vertical moments in my learning curve. As penance, I am rolling my wife's scooter till I can get the Evil Twin back to the HD/Buell shop.

Did I mention that I love my dealer? They didn't even laugh at me. (to my face anyway, and that counts for a lot....)

Yes. But apparently the new flash moves some stuff (important stuff) around in the ECM. Either would have an "issue".

Does anyone know what was addressed in this flash? I think I will sweet talk my service manager into letting me stop in tomorrow and hooking her up to the demon box.
