If someone could measure the diameter (or find it) we could order a Hot Cams kit that has all of the sizes for about $80.

I thought the shims were supposed to be the same ones from the vrod?

If so, I'm shocked the dealer doesn't stock a shim kit.

This is typical of how valve adjustment work, even with the Japanese bikes. Dealers have the shims, but they are in service and not with parts. GOOD dealers will share those shims with customers (I have even heard of some dealers swapping shims for free). Others can't pull the shims from service and special order them from the parts counter.

This is EXACTLY why I like to have a shim kit. Then I KNOW I have what I need and I don't have to stop and blow 2 hours going to the dealer with the possibility of being down for a week on a special order part.

Avc8130,
Here is what you do. Go to a dealer and buy one shim. Your out $2.40. measure it than order your Hot Cams shim kit. If your willing to part with 80 bucks another 2.40 ain’t going to kill ya.
or if someone has a shim handy that could measure one.....

That is the best idea yet! Next time I am ordering parts I will throw a shim in the order for exactly this purpose.

I need to talk to my service guy and see if they'd do a "trade-a-shim" deal with me. Some dealers will swap shims with you for little to no money.

Considering buying an 1125CR so reading up about valve adjustments. I wonder if Al Lighton would be willing to do something like this:

I've had a Volvo for a few years and you can "rent" a shim kit from a Volvo supplier called IPD. You basically pay for the shim kit plus the cost of 8 shims, use what you need, send it back, and they refund you for what you didn't use:

With all the 1125's that have been sold in the last 2 days, I suspect a lot of people will be looking for something like this shortly.
