After pulling the rear wheel it seems that the bearings may need to be replaced. They are very difficult to turn, and when they do it is "notchy". The bike has 3589 miles and is only ridden in the dry. Everyone is closed today since it's Sunday. Biggs H-D is near where I live, but has anyone had a good experience with a San Diego area dealer on wheel bearing replacement under warranty? | ||

I think San Diego Harley/Buell is open on Sundays, but they can't order part due to the fact that Buell is closed. A bit late now though. I haven't had a wheel bearing issue but I've used both, and both dealers are top notch in my book. | ||

Dude, go to San Diego. Downtown off Kettner, talk to Mike Willer, he is the Sales/Service manager, tell him Sean Holman sent you. He is a buddy of mine. They'll take good care of you and know Buells. --Sean | ||

Ron: You are lucky to have caught it at this stage. Even if you had to pay for it yourself, I would recommend replacing the spacer. I may be damaged or too short and been the cause of your early bearing demise. Neil S. | ||

I was able to bring the wheel alone into Biggs H-D in San Marcos (better than what other places told me). The Buell tech there said it felt fine to him. I had Al from American Sportbike check too, and he and I agree that it doesn't feel quite right. Maybe I'll see if it lasts through the second rear tire and bring it in again if it gets worse. | ||

If it gets worse? It will get worse. Take it somewhere else if you got too, I wouldn't ride on it. | ||

Funny, I brought my wheel to Al for a second opinion just after you and he said my bearings felt exactly the same as yours, only mine have 44,540 miles, including rain and off road abuse! If you can't get it done under warrantee, the parts aren't particularly expensive. Just <$50 for bearings and spacer from American Sport Bike. | ||

That should be a replacement, or really the intention is to be new parts to go into the new wheels they have in that section of the accessories catalog. The wheels don't come with bearings installed. | ||

It's a the new 2010 3 bearing setup, so its an upgrade to the older bikes with only two bearings. | ||

I guess it's on a case by case basis. My 08' rear wheel that had to be replaced due to a bearing failure was replaced with an 08' 2 bearing wheel. 27,000+ miles is pretty good, IMHO. Later Neil S. |
