My 09 R is on the dyno right now, having the fuel maps reworked to eliminate the VERY overlean condition of the stocker under 5,000 rpm. That makes for a jumpy throttle action at low rpm when, for example, turning at a light.

Interesting though: as one baseline run last week, first thing we did was turn off the o2 sensors. The result of that on the dyno, was the over-lean condition was replaced by a slightly over-rich condition. Confirmed on the street: the 'jumpy' went away.

Driveability was problem-free, but I'm told this setup would've fouled the plugs eventually; so the fuel mapping is being refined as we speak.

The reality is that the map is that way in order to meet emissions regs. Call your local official if you are looking for someone to blame/thank.

Nope, not looking for someone to blame/thank. I did manage to work out that it was an EPA thing; I had a bit of grey matter left over when I moved here from CA.

Mean you aren't going to write Erik B. a letter regarding fueling or file some complaint against the Company? Now THAT'S a shocker.

You guys haven't figured it out yet? Red is here simply to point out the many flaws of the 1125r and how his solutions make him brilliant!

Red, you have done an outstanding job addressing the shortcomings that only exist in your head. Big congratulations!

Ignore my stalker, buell1125r; she's just jealous. I'm using Dave's program (eBay) and fetching/burning with ecmspy (no longer available) with cable from asb.

As for my stalker's vitriol, I quote another who said "a reasonable man adapts to the situation; an unreasonable man adapts his situation; therefore, all progress is made by unreasonable men". I am a commercially successful inventor, after all (50 patents). I didn't accomplish that by accepting the status quo.

My only real response to this is "Okay."

You posted as if you are the first person to realize and correct this, as if your decision is somehow notable. It really isn't, especially given the fact that a large number of posters on this forum have already taken these steps. In fact, so many of the people who've chosen to make the best of this bike have chosen to remap which means that it pretty much is the status quo.

So... nice job, I guess?

"He thought his midget height seat and vertical windscreen was gonna fix it."

Midget? Been looking at your dingus in a mirror, matey? At least mine's vertical.

Get over yourself, dickhead; your post serves only yourself.

My post, on the other hand, is not braggadocio; it was posted only in the interests of giving information to others.

I assumed it had been done before; I'm late to Buell ownership.

Now if there EVER was a pot calling the kettle black, THIS is it!!!

And what is up with all the sexual remarks? "YOu're a fag. Your dick is limp. Mine is hard. Whores love me." You really sound like a really frustrated and bitter old man. really.

ecmspy = copyright infringement, which is why it "isn't available anymore". Gunther got his dink in a wringer over it. You might want to be careful about posting your use of it here, where it might come to the attention of certain interested parties....

moron.

No matter how much anyone loves Buell, the 1125R needs major tuning. Whether you blame EPA or Buell himself is irrelevant. Neither of them is gonna give you a tune.

O S B, does good, but imperfect work. AFAIK, it's the best product out. IMO, copyright goes out the window when using any illegal tuning product.

Unless Buell goes to 12 hole fuel injectors, ti rods, revised valves, 3mm overbore, updated shafts, etc it will never be competitive in any SBK racing, World or AMA. That doesn't mean it can't be more streetable with significantly better performance and efficiency.

"....copyright goes out the window..."

Tell that to the lawyer you consult if and when you get the registered letter from Buell's intellectual property law firm. I'm sure he/she will be highly amused.

In addition of course to any EPA or CARB pianos that fall on your head for violation of state and federal emissions regulations.

Has it occurred to you that there is a reason you have to have a valid race license to buy Buell's own most excellent tuning aids? And it isn't because they are trying to drum up extra business...

Nearly every high performance bike has fueliing issues and it's due to the tight emissions restrictions. Buell has learned from the first 1125rs that rolled off the assembly line. In a recent shootout between a Duc Streetfighter, Aprillia Tuono & Buell CR, the testers stated the Buell's FI was the best of the bunch.

>>>Buell's FI was the best of the bunch.

And Buell's supplied bike was most likely bone stock.

I don't know what current practice is but neigh on about 10 years ago when I was doing some testing, outside of Buell, I got bikes from Buell and Ducati.

Both companies, without meaning to do so or forethought, provided "unprepped" (meaning they were not altered in anticipation of the test) and they were excellent.

In the case of the Buell . . the bike they'd sent was delayed in transit so we rolled a random bike out of the demo trailer.

Working with Ducati of North America . . when I went to pick up the bike they'd shipped me in Anaheim I found it had been damaged.

I was ready to cancel when the guy told me . . . "I have two other new ones in crates . . why don't the two of you (myself and Lorraine Sturgis) take these two demo 916's go ride for a couple hours and when you get back, we'll have your bike set up.

Cool beans . . .

It is a shame that things can't be "performance optimized" in total disregard for the emissions laws but then it's also a shame I can't drive my car, perfectly capable of doing 140mph all day, at any speed I choose.

The laws are there for a reason.

first buell can do a bit more regarding fi with current hardware. They'll have plenty of time quite soon.

second the moto USA guys never got to compare the o s b tune to stock.

R, can u read? did u really think I was confused about buells legal hinderances? I'm happy to break emissions laws. Buell won't be suing me. The EPA won't know.
I don't have any regard for IP laws as they stand.
Since I'm gonna break 1 law, I'll break all that don't suit me. That includes copyright infringement of ECM spy. Tyvm.

I'm all about IP laws. I don't even download free music. I don't see how buying a motorcycle, and doing what I want to with it is a violation of Buells Intellectual Property.

Now, if I copied their stuff, that I bought, and resold it as my own, then I can see that.

Further, and of course this is a purely hypothetical line of thought, IF there was something out there that was FREE, and I used it as a part of a system that I sold for a profit, did I steal something? How do you steal something that's free?

R

Just because it's free does not mean it's not covered by copyright or license laws.

Look into some of the concepts around open-source software, in particular devices called "copylefts".

Often, they say you can do whatever you want for free, as long as you then publish everything you do with it ALSO for free.

And... Good on you for respecting music, software, and other IP.

"Free"

Depends on whether the "free" violates somebody else's intellectual property rights. If so, you can be busted. A a 'receiver of stolen property' as it were.

Clark....you've made it perfectly clear you care little for the niceties of civilized society, also sometimes known as The Rule of Law; my comments were editorial in nature.
