So has anyone figured out what each of the screens mean in diagnostic mode? It sure would be nice to be able to know what I am looking at, other than F and R AFVs?

I realized it was binary, but what makes it go from 1 to 0 without a sidestand switch? I know the clutch does the same thing.

It must have a switch. Either that, or it has a magnetic sensor similar to a speedo. I haven't looked.

So the ECM is just programed to ignore it?

I am pretty sure there is no switch. Check my previous post:

Yeah...I would imagine the signal is simply ignored.

Chad,
Look at the pic in my other post. There is clearly something not installed on the US bike. It looks like the perfect location for a kickstand switch, plus the service manual covers a kickstand switch but says Euro Only.

Bingo Tony.
The mount for the sensor is used on all bikes.
On the US models, there's a rubber stop for the stand to contact.
Behind that is a hole that the sensor sits in, in Europe and wherever else they are used.

Different locations have slightly different ECM revs.
One of those differences is for the European ECM to look for the sensor output and the US 50 state versions to ignore it.

You can buy the sensor, it's around 80 bucks IIRC.
But then you'd have to get a European ECM flash for it to work...

Zack,
All of that makes perfect sense...but how do we explain the 0/1 readout Chad found in the diagnostics? Without the switch next to the rubber stopper, how does the ECM get a signal of 1 or 0 to ignore?

Depending on the circuit it will read either a 1 or a 0 when no sensor is connected.
Most likely, it is a "fail-safe" which would be to show the same with no sensor or a broken wire as having the stand down.
Either way, the ECM can ignore it even tho you see it in Diag Mode.
Display and actions are separate fields in the ECM program.

eg. If you knew which bits to change in the ECM, you could tell it to ignore the clutch switch for starting.
Then you could go into Diag Mode and work the clutch and see the bits change from 1 to 0 but it wouldn't matter to the starter circuit. Capice?

Zack,
I completely understand the ability of the ECM to take an input from the sensor and ignore...my question is where is the ECM getting the sidestand input from if there is no sensor?

Zack,
I threw my bike in diagnostic mode to check on what Chad claimed. My bike doesn't act the same. It just has Sidestand Voltage: 5V. This makes sense. It does not change when I operate the kickstand. This also makes sense. No ignorance from the ECM here.

On a side note I did see that my AFV are 94.5F and 100.0R.

I think I follow now, Tony.
Did Chad say his CHANGES value when he operates the stand?
Only possibility there is an intermittent short in the sensor lead wires as there is no sensor there.

Unless Chad got one that was SUPPOSED to go to Europe.

Z

<edit> I just looked at the older posts and yes, that's exactly what Chad said.. odd.
Never seen Loretta do that.
I'll check later, maybe it's like "phantom pain" where a lost appendage still sends pain messages to the brain...

Guys, I may be wrong. I'd have to double check. Maybe I'm thinking about the clutch live data. Now that you say it, I think it does read as a voltage.

Hey, I'm human. I could be wrong. : )

Darnit Chad! You almost started WW3 over a sidestand interlock!

I thought I felt the Earth tilting back onto its axis when I checked my bike and it all seemed proper.

LOL

Sorry...I should have checked when I was out riding today, but I was too busy laughing manically in my helmet to give a damn. : )
