Has anyone done this before? I want to see if i could get a race fairing stay and top fairing just for track days and take off the front head light.

Any suggestions?

and no im not buying a R version, i like my cr for the street just want the wind protection for the track

Might be a bit more involved than would be practical. I think some poster here and a buddy swapped a cr and an r, and it was possible, but "involved".

My recollection was that it involved basically the entire top of the triple tree, most or all of the brake/clutch cabling, and much of the electical harnessing.

To be sure, try searching "R CR swap" or related verbage.

its been done, but very impractical for general track prep.

my advice: keep the CR for the street and steal a '08 R from bumpus H-D for the track.

Why bother? The CR should make a good enough track tool, don't think you would even need the gearing from the R.
If you need a full fairing have a look at the aftermarket options.

If it is just gonna be for track use its an easy swap. No use of lights or anything. The only thing youll have to do is pop out plastic plug on the neck of the frame that holds the wiring harness support on the CR.

I plan on doing track days on my CR in stock trim. Track days are just that, track days. The few tenths of a second per lap I'd gain with a fairing aren't going to do me any good at a track day.

Heck, I seen guys on motards, naked SVs, and other nonfaired bikes at track days all the time. It's pretty commonplace.
