I sold my XB12R in April of 08, and I've been wanting a new bike really badly lately.

So I went to a couple dealerships today:

Aprilia/Yamaha

Aprilias were $15k plus, and I don't want to spend that much....

Yamaha R1 was $11,400 on sale, and I'm sure better after haggling.

Suzuki/Honda/Kawi

Their new bikes were silly, so I didn't really look.

2006 R1 5k on the clock $8,400, I think they would probably deal down close to $1k.

2009 R1 1.5k on the clock $10,000, I think they would probably deal down close to $1k.

Buell:

2008 1125r (they had so many....) $9,800 I really don't like the blue frame and wheels at all, and the 08 gremlins are not very appealing, but saving a considerable amount of dough for the "same" bike sounds pretty nice.

2009 1125r 12,500, and I didn't haggle with them at all since I'm not ready to buy.

I didn't get to test ride anything but the Buell of course, and holy crap is that bike a ton faster than my XB was. I was very impressed with the power of the 1125r, and it felt like an old friend since it is still very similar to my XB. I liked it a lot.

A couple questions:

Am I going to get killed in depreciation with the 1125 like I did the XB? Are these bikes seeming to hold their value, or is it standard Buell depreciation?

What prices are people getting for the 08/09 models? If they are going to stick to MSRP I might as well wait and get a 2010, or just wait and buy a used 09.

At this point I think the R1 would be by far the best deal since it is a $12.5k bike for only $9k because it has 1,500 miles on it.

I liked my XB a lot, and it does seem as though the dealer network is improving now that only the Buell participating dealers have them. I am a little gunshy of buying another one new though. I think maybe I would be better served to wait till winter and buy a used 09.

Hey Olin,

Just picked up a new 08 from Bumpus in Murfreesboro,TN today, they have a deal on the new 08's for 8900.00 that is a steal. I LOVE the 1125, it is a beast and the most stable bike at speed I have ever owned. It is as stable at 30 mph as it is at 100, honestly. Contact Jeremy, Ft_Bstrd on the forums, he is a great guy.

Oh and yes you will get killed on depreciation, all bikes are bad right now for that, so get the one you want and make sure it is what you want. Once you have that Buell though, everything else will seem inferior.

Thanks guys.

I was thinking that the price on the 08s was high even though it was $2,000 off MSRP. They are about to be 2 year old new bikes, and used 08s are already as low as $7,600 on NADA. I don't want to buy a 2 year old bike for even $9k that is only worth $7.5k.

The 09 bikes don't look much better since NADA has them listed as low as $7.9k.

The R1 low retail is only about $400 ($8.3k) higher than the 09 1125, but I think I can get the R1 for $9k.

I used to be on the badweb all the time even though I haven't been as much since I sold my bike, so I know how some get worked up when depreciation gets brought up. I completely understand that a bike, or any vehicle for that matter, is a money losing venture but I think it is only smart for a consumer to consider what something is going to be worth when they part with it. I bought my XB for around $10,500 new in August 04, and sold it for about it in April of 08 for $5k. Of course I put a ton of time/effort and money in to that bike, and even though I feel like I was really lucky to sell it for that much I don't want to go through the same situation again. That is why I think I'm going to buy used this time.

Anyway. Thanks for the help, and if anyone has more info it would be appreciated.

Buellsrule, your bike is sweet, but if I buy another Buell it will be the 1125R. The CR is cool, but I don't think it is the bike for me. I went with the Firebolt last time, and I'll continue on the sportbike instead of the streetfighter if I go Buell again.

Here is some pictures. My old bike, an example of the R1, and the bike I test rode.

I have two additional bikes you might be interested in.

I have one 08 1125R with 768 miles and one with 268 miles.

Both are $8100.

I might be able to get the one with 268 miles to qualify as "new" for financing purposes.

The R1 is a FANTASTIC bike, but for the street, the 1125R makes better, more usable power.

I finally got my hardcore R1 fanboy buddy into the shop to do a test ride. He came back grinning from ear to ear. He said "I heard you talk about Buells, but I didn't really believe you. I can see how you can become addicted to the torque. It made power everywhere not just at the 10,500 RPM mark +. HOLY CRAP! I'd buy this over the R1."

Obviously, you know the benefits of Buell. I'd love to make you a deal. Let me know.

Ft Bstrd's deal is really good. If you have a certified Buell dealer near you (with a Buell trained tech) then take him up on it.

I PROMISE 1000% YOU WILL NEED TO TAKE IT INTO THE SHOP before 2 years is up. But the warranty is solid and once you get the suspension dialed in you'll be quite happy. Just a warning, the plugs may be gone and will need replacement if you get the OSB tune.

FYI, the R1 is 45lbs heavier than the Buell (30lbs if you get the Graves Sport shorty exhaust) and makes significantly less average torque.

Deals are good on the '09 CRs...just bought one from Fatty B a little over a week ago.

Bumpus, with Fatty's help, is soon going to be what Appleton's (WI) was back when Dave S. was there. The PREMIER Buell dealer in the country and perhaps the world. Go Jeremy!
